Double wins for Lightning, Redbacks (Friday Night Wrap)

The Lakeside Lightning and Perth Redbacks men's and women's SBL teams both recorded impressive victories on Friday night over the South West Slammers and Perry Lakes Hawks respectively.

The Lakeside Lightning extended its lead atop the men's SBL improving to a 14-1 record after a 107-74 win over the Collie Crane Hire South West Slammers at Lakeside Recreation Centre.

Ben Beran top-scored for the Lightning with 22 points with Justin Cecil adding 21, Ryan Sofoulis 12 and Jesse Dixon 11. Jarrad Prue was a monster inside again with eight points, 19 rebounds and four blocked shots.

Jamahr Warren top-scored for South West with 18 points, eight rebounds, five assists and five steals. Clive Weeden and Wade Hitchcock both scored 17 points.

The BOQ Perth Redbacks improved to a 6-3 record by beating the third-placed Perry Lakes Hawks 100-91 at Belmont Oasis.

Joel Wagner led the way for the Redbacks with 25 points, five rebounds and four assists. Bennie Lewis added 20 points, 10 boards and five assists with Justin Brown also having 14 points and 12 rebounds, Michael Vigor 16 and nine, and Jarrad Prior 17 points.

Rob Cassir finished with 22 points for the Hawks with Michael Lay scoring 17 points and Corey Easley 16. Adrian Majstrovich added 14 points and 20 rebounds.

The Perth Redbacks won their fifth game of the women's SBL season with a 65-56 victory over the Perry Lakes Hawks largely thanks to a 24-14 opening quarter.

Marita Payne top-scored for the Redbacks with 20 points, nine rebounds and an incredible six blocked shots. Rachel Lisch also had 15 points and four assists.

Natalie Burton had 17 points and nine rebounds for the Hawks with Belinda Mayger adding 15 points and Gabriella Clayton 12.

The Lakeside Lightning improved to a 6-7 record beating the South West Slammers also on Friday night 73-66.

Krystal Stoneking finished with 19 points, seven rebounds and three steals for the Lightning with Emily Fielding adding 15 points, four boards and three assists. Courtney Byrnes also scored 12 points to go with five rebounds and three assists.

Kimberly Sitzmann was terrific for South West with 22 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and three steals. Bianca Donovan, Donnell Wallam and Zoe Harper all added 10 points apiece.
