Ruthless Tigers show no mercy (Week 11 Women's Wrap)

Willetton and Wanneroo put pressure on Women’s State Basketball League leaders Rockingham with wins in their respective matches in round 11.

Rockingham have won their past nine games to build a 9-2 record, but had a bye in round 11.

The bye opened the door for the Tigers and Wolves to draw level on nine wins, but they both have three losses and the Flames have a game in hand.

Willetton were the most impressive of the two challengers on the weekend, scoring a comfortable 64-42 win over mid-table Perth Redbacks.

The Tigers led by five points at half-time before breaking the game wide open with a 24-6 third quarter.

Wanneroo beat South West 54-52 in a tight affair away from home, with WNBL guard Nikita-Lee Martin the standout contributor with 14 points amongst a group of 10 separate scorers.

The Slammers had been forced to back up after a tough 73-66 loss to Lakeside on Friday and produced a gutsy display before eventually falling short.

East Perth remain rooted to the foot of the ladder following a 65-44 defeat to Cockburn, while Kalamunda are in fourth place after beating Stirling 84-70.

It was a rare night of double-celebration for Kalamunda at the Ray Owen Sports Centre, where both the Suns men’s and women’s teams enjoyed victories.

On Friday night, Perth beat Perry Lakes 65-56 to stay in touch with the top eight.
