Week Twelve SBL Players of the Week

People’s Choice East Perth Eagles big man Tom Jervis has been named the Week Twelve Men’s SBL Player of the Week.

After a stellar 2012 season, the 211cm East Perth centre was named the Men’s SBL All-Star starting centre and led the league in blocked shots.

Jervis has continued his impressive form into 2013, particularly at the defensive end with thirty-six rejections in fifteen games and again sits as the league leader for blocks.

On Saturday night the Eagles travelled to Wanneroo to take on the highly ranked Wolves in what was set to be an exciting encounter.

The game did not disappoint. Jervis was unstoppable for East Perth as he shot 62% from the field to lead all scorers with 26 points including two from three beyond the arc along with 18 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal and 4 blocks leading the Eagles to a six point victory 118-112.

If Jervis can continue the form which has East Perth currently sitting second on the ladder you can expect them to go deep into the finals as they hope to go one better than they did in 2012.

Other considerations for the award included Cory Cooperwood (Stirling), Carter Cook (Geraldton), Quinn McDowell (Willetton), Luke Nevill (Kalmaunda), Robert Cassir (Perry Lakes), Taylor Land (Mandurah), Rhett Della Maddalena (Mandurah), Ty Harrelson (South West), Justin Cecil (Lakeside), Jarrad Prue (Lakeside), Markhuri Sanders-Frison (Goldfields), Michael Lay (Perry Lakes), Taylor Mullenax (Mandurah) and Brian Carlwell (Cockburn).

Stirling Senators import Amber Land has been announced the Week Twelve Women’s SBL Player of the Week.

The Senators took on the enormous task of breaking the Rockingham Flames nine game winning streak on Friday night and managed to do so successfully on the back of some spectacular basketball from centre Amber Land.

Shooting eleven of eighteen from the field, Land led all scorers with 29 points to go with 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 1 block.

Land managed to only accumulate 1 turnover in 33 minutes of game time and led the Senators to an upset victory over the Flames 82-78.

Land backed up her performance the following night against the Perth Redbacks recording another double-double to finish with 14 points, 15 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and 1 block in a narrow five point loss for the Senators.

Stirling now sit in tenth position only one game out of the top eight.

Other considerations for the award included Casey Mihovilovich (Mandurah), Stephanie Jones (Cockburn), Kimberly Sitzmann (South West), Jessie Edwards (Kalamunda), Jennie Rintala (Kalamunda), Samantha Whitcomb (Rockingham), Donnelle Wallam (South West), Danielle Lipscombe (East Perth) and Marita Payne (Perth).
