Battle for top eight heats up (Week 13 Women's Preview)

Rockingham Flames get the chance to hit back straight away from last week’s surprise defeat when they open round 13 of the Women’s State Basketball League against Perry Lakes tonight.

The Flames relinquished top spot last week when they suffered a shock loss to Stirling and were overtaken on the ladder by both Wanneroo and Willetton.

Wanneroo jumped to the top of the pile when they beat East Perth, but the Wolves will have to cool their heels on the sidelines with a bye this week.

Perth and Stirling will be hoping to break into the top eight tonight when they take on opponents with vastly contrasting form.

Perth meet Cockburn, who only had a four-game winning streak stopped last week, while Stirling host last-placed East Perth.

The Eagles are on a league-worst nine-game losing streak and have won just one game all season.

East Perth get two cracks at snapping the losing run this week, but will start rank outsiders when they take on Rockingham on Saturday.

Cockburn back up on Saturday against fellow mid-table team Lakeside, while Mandurah host a Perry Lakes side that will also have to recover quickly from their Friday night game.

Second-placed Willetton will move to the top of the ladder to give the league a third different leader in as many weeks if they can beat fourth-placed Kalamunda on the road.
