Week Thirteen SBL Players of the Week

Cockburn Cougars guard Damien Scott has taken out the Week Thirteen Men’s SBL Player of the Week award.

This announcement tops off a perfect week for the Cougars. After taking care of the Redbacks on Friday night the Cougars managed to knock off the championship favourites Lakeside Lightning in captain Grant Davey’s 300th SBL game.

It was an all-round team effort on Friday night at Belmont Oasis which allowed Cockburn to gain a three point victory over Perth with Scott a solid contributor chipping in with a handy 13 points and 7 rebounds.

On Saturday the Cougars went in as underdogs against championship favourites, Lakeside. Scott could not be stopped as he put together one of the best shooting displays of the season, shooting 77% from the field, to record a game high 44 points including seven-of-ten from beyond the arc to go with 4 rebounds, 6 assists and 1 steal.

Already a member of the Perth Wildcats Development Squad in 2012/13, twenty-year-old Scott is on his way to becoming one of the premier guards in the SBL.

Other considerations for the award included Aaron Ralph (Geraldton), Brian Carlwell (Cockburn), Benjamin Smith (Kalamunda), Cory Cooperwood (Stirling), Drew Williamson (East Perth), Jamahr Warren (South West), Damian Matacz (Wanneroo), Taylor Mullenax (Mandurah), Michael Lay (Perry Lakes), Corey Easley (Perry Lakes), Tom Jervis (East Perth), Travis Moore (Rockingham) and Brandon Adams (Willetton).

 

Perry Lakes Hawks star Gabriella Clayton has been awarded the Week Thirteen Women’s SBL Player of the Week award.

Clayton was outstanding for the Hawks in both games of their tough double header over the weekend, top scoring in both games.

Friday night seen Perry Lakes taking on the highly ranked Rockingham at the WA Basketball Centre where Clayton put together a match winning performance to record 21 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 steal as the Hawks sent the Flames packing 87-51.

On Saturday night the Hawks had the difficult task of travelling to Mandurah to take on the Magic, however, Clayton was again impressive to lead her team to their second win of the weekend with 15 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists as Perry Lakes downed Mandurah 54-42.

Clayton a West Coast Waves squad member will be looking to continue her form in the second half of the season as the Hawks look to push deep into the finals.

Other considerations for the award included Jennie Rintala (Kalamunda), Emily Fielding (Lakeside), Ajay Jones (Kalamunda), Stephanie Jones (Cockburn), Antonia Edmondson (Willetton), Denielle Lipscombe (East Perth), Casey Mihovilovich (Mandurah) and Samantha Whitcomb (Rockingham).
