Week Fifteen SBL Players of the Week

Kalamunda Eastern Suns and Australian Boomers centre Luke Nevill has been announced the week fifteen Men’s SBL Player of the Week.

Fresh from his recent tour of China with the Australian Boomers, Nevill returned to the SBL and continued his solid form for the Suns.

Nevill put together a sensational performance on Sunday as Kalamunda took on Wanneroo at Ray Owen Sports Centre, finishing with 40 points, 20 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal as the Suns went down in a close one 100-96.

At 218cm, Luke Nevill is more than a handful for opposition players and coaches and has now developed his outside game which has him shooting at forty percent for the season from beyond the arc.

Other considerations for the award included Carter Cook (Geraldton), Damian Matacz (Wanneroo), Quinn McDowell (Willetton), Steven Bennett (Rockingham), Brian Carlwell (Cockburn), Tom Jervis (East Perth), Clive Weeden (South West), Cory Cooperwood (Stirling), Taylor Mullenax (Mandurah), Jaycen Herring (Goldfields), Bennie Lewis (Perth) and Michael Lay (Perry Lakes).

Wanneroo Wolves guard Chelsea Burns has been awarded the week fifteen Women’s SBL Player of the Week award.

The Wolves currently sit atop the Women’s SBL ladder with thirteen wins for the season and there is no doubting the toughness and defensive skill set which Burns possesses has gone a long way to helping the team get to this position.

Burns, coming off a recent injury setback which saw her undergo minor surgery for a broken nose after a collision with team mate Nikita Martin has been sporting a protective face mask in her last four games for the Wolves, however, it has not stopped her from playing the tough, high energy, aggressive game she is gaining a reputation for.

On Saturday night, the Wolves defeated the Cougars by nineteen points at Joondalup Basketball Stadium where Burns put together one of her best games of the season to record 22 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists, 5 steals and not record a single turnover in thirty minutes of game time.

The Wolves second phase of their tough double header took place on Sunday against Kalamunda at Ray Owen Sports Centre. Burns again kept the statisticians busy to record 6 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals, helping the Wolves to a two point victory 71-69.

Other considerations for the award included Lisa Wallbutton (Willetton), Shani Amos (Wanneroo), Danielle Smith (South West), Amber Land (Stirling), Samantha Roscoe (Stirling), Marita Payne (Perth), Danielle Lipscombe (East Perth), Melissa Marsh (Willetton), Antonia Edmondson (Willetton), Samantha Whitcomb (Rockingham), Stephanie Jones (Cockburn) and Emma Pass (Cockburn).
