Hawks bounce back, Wolves fire (Saturday Wrap)

THE Perry Lakes Hawks men's team bounced back from Friday's loss to win on Saturday to consolidate second position in the SBL with Geraldton dropping a game at home to an on-fire Wanneroo.

The Australian Belt Scrapers Wanneroo Wolves put in a massive performance to knock off the in-form Sun City Plumbing Geraldton Buccaneers 123-102 at Active West Stadium on Saturday night.

The Buccaneers had been in outstanding form of late to be putting real pressure on the second-placed Perry Lakes Hawks and could have joined them on 16 wins with a win on Saturday, but the Wolves wouldn’t let that happen and improved to 13-10 and sixth position themselves.

Trian Iliadis finished with 29 points for Wanneroo, Rob Huntington 24, Seb Salinas 23, Damian Matacz 18 and Reece Maxwell 13.

Rob Kampman did all he could for Geraldton with 36 points while Carter Cook hit 23 points, Daniel Thomas 15 and Aaron Ralph 13.

The Perry Lakes Hawks bounced back from losing on Friday to the Collie Crane Hire South West Slammers to beat the struggling Silver Lake Resources Goldfields Giants at WA Basketball Centre 86-65 to maintain second spot ahead of the Buccaneers.

Corey Easley led the way with 26 points and 15 rebounds for the Hawks with Ben Purser finishing with 17 points, 14 boards and five assists. Tevin Jackson added 15 points and Rob Cassir 13.

Russell Hurst scored 23 points and had 10 rebounds for Goldfields with Matthew Leske adding 15 points and Dwayne Radcliffe 10. Lordan Franich had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The BOQ Perth Redbacks maintained fourth position on the table as well beating the previously on-fire South West Slammers 112-99 at Belmont Oasis.

The Redbacks improved to a 14-9 record with Jarrad Prior leading the way with 30 points. Bennie Lewis added 21, Justin Brown 18, Joel Wagner 16 and Michael Vigor 11.

The Slammers slipped to a 12-11 record in eighth spot with Clive Weeden scoring 21 points, Jamahr Warren 21, Ty Harrelson 19, Trent Worthington 16 and Josh Weir 11.

The Mandurah Magic rebounded from a loss to East Perth at home on Friday to beat the Rockingham Flames 104-87 at Mike Barnett Sports Complex on Saturday night.

Taylor Mullenax was on fire for Mandurah with 34 points and 11 rebounds with Taylor Land adding 18 points, Rhett Della Maddalena 17 and Paul Pantaleo 12.

Cooper Land finished with 36 points for the Flames with Travis Moore scoring 14 and Ryan Godfrey 11.

The People's Choice Eagles capped off an impressive weekend with a 130-102 thumping of the flagging Willetton Tigers at Morley Sport and Recreation Centre.

Tom Jervis hit 30 points to go with nine rebounds and nine blocked shots for the Eagles with Drew Williamson scoring 29 points to go with eight assists.

Joe-Alan Tupaea had a triple-double with 18 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists with Michael Jones scoring 18 points, John Taylor 17 and Sunday Dech 14.

Quinn McDowell did all he could for the Tigers with 32 points and 13 rebounds while hitting 4-of-5 from three-point land. Brandon Adams scored 17 points and Andrew Black 13.

The defending champion Cockburn Cougars stayed in the finals hunt with a 99-95 win over the Stirling Senators at Warwick Leisure Centre.

David Reichel hit 29 points for the Cougars with Brian Carlwell adding 21 and 13 rebounds. Gavin Field added 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists with Damien Scott scoring 12 points.

Cory Cooperwood hit 28 points for the Senators with Sean Gilmore adding 20, Jordan Wild 18 and Nikolas Iliadis 12.

In women's action, the South West Slammers backed up their win on Friday over the Perry Lakes Hawks by beating the Perth Redbacks on Saturday 65-58.

That sees the Slammers shoot up to fifth position in the standings with Kimberly Sitzmann finishing with 18 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals, and Zoe Harper 12 points and 16 boards. Kara Hargreaves also had 10 points, five rebounds and three assists.

Gabby O'Sullivan hit 21 points for the Redbacks with Marita Payne adding 13 points, 11 rebounds and four blocked shots.

The Rockingham Flames remained in third spot and stayed in touch with the top two positions with a 73-49 win over the Mandurah Magic.

Samantha Whitcomb led the way for the Flames with 24 points, nine rebounds and six assists with Kaye Tucker adding 17 points, eight boards, five assists, three blocks and two steals with Jacinta Bourne also scoring 12 points to go with five steals.

Casey Mihovilovich had 12 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and five steals for the Magic with Briana Klasztorny finishing with 11 points and 18 boards.

The Willetton Tigers maintained second position with a 59-45 win over the Toll Ipec Eagles with Lara Napier top-scoring with 16 points and Melissa Marsh adding 13 to go with 10 rebounds and six assists.

Danielle Lipscombe led the way for East Perth with 14 points and Nicole Jorre St Jorre added 10 points, six rebounds and five steals.

The Stirling Senators beat the Cockburn Cougars 85-77 at Warwick Leisure Centre with Samantha Roscoe leading the way for the Senators with 16 points and six boards. Kelly Ellis scored 10 points and Hannah Throns nine to go with 11 boards and four assists.

Stephanie Jones worked hard for Cockburn with 19 points and 14 rebounds with Emma Pass scoring 15 points, Kate Fielding 13 and Taryn Priestly 11.
