Redbacks hold onto fourth position

The Bank of Queensland Redbacks’ Men’s State Basketball League team had a strong 112 to 99 win in a danger-game against the fifth-placed South West Slammers.

This sees the Redbacks’ men consolidate their top four-position in the 14-team competition with 14 wins and nine losses.

Redbacks’ shooting guard Jarrad Prior was the game-high scorer with 30, including six three-pointers from 12 shots, along with three steals and five rebounds.

Swing-man Bennie Lewis scored 21 along with six rebounds and six assists while centre Justin Brown scored 18 and had 11 rebounds and point-guard Joel Wagner scored 16 along with nine assists.

The Bank of Queensland Redbacks’ Women’s team lost in overtime 58 to 65, after the game was locked at 51 apiece at the end of regular time.

18-year old Redbacks’ point-guard Gabby O’Sullivan was the game-high scorer with 21, which included four consecutive successful high-pressure free throws to tie the game at the end of regular time.

Centre Marita Payne had 13 along with 11 rebounds and four shot-blocks while point-guard Desiree Delcoure scored seven.

The Redbacks’ women are now in 10th-place in the 12-team competition with eight wins and 12 losses.

They will have to win their remaining two games and hope that other results go their way to have any chance of making a top-eight play-off spot.

The Bank of Queensland Redbacks meets Mandurah Magic this Friday in an away-game at the Mandurah Leisure and Aquatic Centre, with the women’s game starting at 6.30PM and the men’s game at 8.30PM.

The Redbacks’ men follow this up with a blockbuster home-game at the Belmont Oasis Leisure and Aquatic Centre against the third-placed Geraldton Buccaneers on Saturday night, which tips off at 7.30PM.
