Tigers hit top spot in women's SBL (Saturday Wrap)

THE Willetton Tigers have taken over top spot in the women's SBL standings with the Stirling Senators upsetting Wanneroo while Willetton's men's side put a big dent in Cockburn's finals hopes.

The Sun City Plumbing Geraldton Buccaneers bounced back from a surprise loss to Wanneroo last weekend to beat the BOQ Perth Redbacks 115-111 on Saturday in men's SBL action at Belmont Oasis to remain a chance to move up into second position in the standings.

Daniel Thomas was the star of the night for the Buccaneers finishing with a massive 40 points to go with seven rebounds.

Carter Cook added 34 points, nine rebounds and four steals with Aaron Ralph also adding 20 points and Matt Wundenberg nine points to go with 14 rebounds.

Bennie Lewis hit 29 points and pulled in nine rebounds for the Redbacks with Jarrad Prior adding 24 points, Justin Brown 21 (and 13 rebounds), Michael Vigor 16 (11) and Joel Wagner 14.

The Kalamunda Eastern Suns won its first game on the road for the season with a 109-78 thumping of the Silver Lake Resources Goldfields Giants at Neils Hansen Basketball Stadium.

Luke Nevill was massive for the Suns with 34 points, 24 rebounds, five assists and four blocked shots with Ben Smith adding 36 points and Louis Timms 13 for Kalamunda.

Russell Hurst did all he could for the Giants with 37 points and 15 rebounds with Lordan Franich adding 16 points and Matthew Leske 13.

The Collie Crane Hire South West Slammers maintained eighth position on the table with a 112-89 thumping of the People's Choice Eagles at Eaton Recreation Centre.

Ty Harrelson had 31 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds for the Slammers with Jamahr Warren adding 20 points, Clive Weeden 12, Trent Worthington 10 and Wade Hitchcock 10.

Sunday Dech had 26 points for the Eagles with Michael Jones adding 17, Drew Williamson 14 and Tom Jervis 11 to go with 13 rebounds.

The Australian Belt Scrapers Wanneroo Wolves won their sixth straight match with a thrilling 102-99 victory over the Stirling Senators at Joondalup Basketball Stadium.

Trian Iliadis led the way for the Wolves with 29 points and 11 rebounds. Damian Matacz added 23 points, Seb Salinas 18 and Rob Huntington 18.

Jordan Wild did all he could for the Senators with 36 points, 12 rebounds and four assists. Cory Cooperwood added 28 points and seven boards.

The top-of-the-table Lakeside Lightning beat the Rockingham Flames 119-100 at Lakeside Recreation Centre with Ben Beran outstanding with 28 points and 21 rebounds. Jesse Dixon added 26 points, Brad Jackson 16, Justin Cecil 12, Chris Sofoulis 11 and Jarrad Prue had 24 rebounds.

Steve Bennett had 26 points and 10 assists for the Flames with Cooper Land scoring 24 points, Ryan Godfrey 16, Brendan Della Maddalena 16 and Trent Gerovich 11.

The Willetton Tigers put a huge dent in defending champion Cockburn's finals charge with a 106-99 win on Saturday at Willetton Basketball Stadium.

Brandon Adams top-scored for the Tigers with 31 points with Quinn McDowell adding 27 points, Mitchell Clarke 14, Jacob Reed 12 and Hayden Noordhoek 11.

Brian Carlwell finished with 25 points and 14 rebounds for the Cougars with Damien Scott adding 22 points, David Reichel 15 and Gavin Field 13.

The South West Slammers women's team rebounded from their loss in the grand final rematch against Rockingham on Friday to beat the bottom-placed Toll Ipec Eagles on Saturday 55-38 at Eaton Recreation Centre.

Lauren Jeffers top-scored for South West with Kimberly Sitzmann adding 10 points, six rebounds and six assists. Zoe Harper also had eight points and 11 boards.

Jodee Sontay had 12 points for the Eagles and Denielle Lipscombe 11 to go with five rebounds and three assists.

The Stirling Senators made it a terrific weekend backing up the win over Lakeside on Friday with an upset victory over the Wanneroo Wolves 64-60 at Joondalup Basketball Stadium on Saturday.

The result sees the Senators shoot up to sixth spot on the ladder while the Wolves lose top spot as a consequence.

Amber Land finished with 23 points and 17 rebounds for the Senators while Taylor Lilley hit 21 points to go with five rebounds and three assists.

Casey Lockwood had 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Wolves with Nikita-Lee Martin adding 12 points and Ainsleigh Sanders 10.

The Rockingham Flames also made it a double-win weekend backing up their victory over South West on Friday with a 78-43 thumping of the Lakeside Lightning on Saturday at Lakeside Recreation Centre.

Samantha Whitcomb led the way for the Flames with 33 points, 10 rebounds and five assists with Talisia Bourne adding 12 points and Courtney Hargreaves 11, seven boards and five assists. Kaye Tucker added eight points and 14 rebounds and Mary-Alice Telfer six and 10.

Krystal Stoneking finished with 10 points, 10 rebounds and five steals for the Lightning.

The Willetton Tigers won their sixth straight match and moved to the top of the women's SBL standings with an 81-56 thumping of the Cockburn Cougars at Willetton Basketball Stadium.

Antonia Edmondson had 21 points, eight rebounds and four assists for the Tigers with Lisa Wallbutton adding 18 points and 12 boards. Emma Lobb had 12 points and nine rebounds with Lara Napier finishing with 10 points, six boards and six assists.

Stephanie Jones finished with 16 points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots for the Cougars with Kate Fielding adding 14 points and Emma Pass 10.
