Redbacks women beat Mandurah

The Bank of Queensland Redbacks’ women’s State Basketball League team had a strong 46 to 60 away-game win over Mandurah Magic.

Despite the win and there being one qualifying round game still remaining, they are unable to reach a top-eight playoff spot as other results did not go their way.

They are in 10th place in the 12-team competition with nine wins and 12 losses.

Point-guard Gabby O’Sullivan was the Redbacks’ highest scorer with 16 along with 12 rebounds and two assists.

Centre Marita Payne had 15 along with 17 rebounds while forward Tarsha Fletcher had 13 and seven rebounds.

The Bank of Queensland Redbacks’ Men’s team had two disappointing losses over the weekend.

This sees them slip from fourth to sixth place in the 14-team competition with 14 wins and 11 losses.

They lost their away-game fixture against the Mandurah Magic 84 to 106.

Redbacks’ forward Bennie Lewis scored 21 while power-forward Michael Vigor also had 21 along with nine rebounds.

Point-guard Joel Wagner had 10 points and eight assists while shooting guard Jarrad Prior scored 12.

The Redbacks’ men also had a nail-biting 111 to 115 home-game loss to the third-placed Geraldton Buccaneers.

Lewis was the Redbacks’ highest scorer with 29 along with nine rebounds.

Prior scored 24, including eight from 16 successful three-point shots and Vigor scored 16 along with 11 rebounds.

The top-eight playoff positions in the men’s State Basketball League competition have been set.

Depending upon the results of next week’s final qualifying round games the Redbacks’ men could finish anywhere  between fourth and eighth place.

The last qualifying round game for the Bank of Queensland Redbacks is Friday at the Western Australian Basketball Centre against the Perry Lakes Hawks, with the women’s game starting at 6.30PM and the men’s game at 8.30PM.
