Week 19 'Kickz101 Perth' Newcomers of the Week

The week nineteen ‘Kickz101 Perth’, Men’s Newcomer of the Week has been awarded to Sunday Dech of the People’s Choice, East Perth Eagles.

Nineteen-year-old, Dech, has been eased into his first season of SBL by head coach Adam Forde, averaging 12.86 minutes in his first nineteen games to now averaging 28.77 minutes in his last six games.

With Joe-Alan Tupaea absent from the Eagles clash with the Slammers on Saturday night, Dech was called upon to take up the roll as starting point-guard, and did not disappoint. Dech played a season high 37 minutes to score a game high 26 points which included four of eight from beyond the arc, to go with 7 rebounds and 1 assist as the short-handed Eagles went down 112-89.

Dech’s strong showing for East Perth has come at an exciting time of the season with the Eagles guaranteed a finals berth, in a bid to go one better than 2012 and crown themselves, 2013 SBL Champions.

Bank of Queensland, Perth Redbacks guard Gabby O’Sullivan has been announced the ‘Kickz101 Perth’ Newcomer of the Week for the second time this season, after a strong showing in week nineteen.

O’Sullivan, one of the leagues most improved players, was outstanding on Friday night when the Redbacks took on the Magic at the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre.

Nineteen-year-old, O’Sullivan, top scored for the Redbacks with 16 points, 12 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal as Perth defeated Mandurah 60-46.

With Perth’s loss of WNBL West Coast Waves player, Rachel Lisch, halfway through the season, Gabby O’Sullivan was given the opportunity to step up in her absence and she has done just that, much to the delight of Redbacks fans.

Dech and O’Sullivan are now in contention for the monthly award where the winner of a facebook poll receives a pair of shoes of their choice thanks to Kickz101 Perth.
