Kickz101 Perth' Newcomers of the Week (QF - Wk 2)

The Quarter-Finals, Week two, ‘Kickz101 Perth’ Women’s Newcomer of the Week has been awarded to Courtney Byrnes of the Lakeside Lightning.

In Lakeside’s quarter-final loss to Kalamunda on Friday night, Byrnes top scored for the Lightning recording 19 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal to be named the Kickz101 Perth, Newcomer of the Week for the second time this season.

It was a disappointing end to what was an excellent season by the Lighting, finishing fourth on the WSBL ladder. Fans won’t be disheartened as the future looks bright for the Lighting with young stars Courtney Byrnes, Ashleigh Grant and Courtney Bayliss taking their games to another level as they push towards the 2014 season.

The Quarter-Finals, Week two, ‘Kickz101 Perth’ Men’s Newcomer of the Week has been awarded to Sunday Dech of the East Perth Eagles.

Under the guidance and opportunities offered by head coach Adam Forde, Sunday has taken his game to another level throughout the 2013 season. With Jarrod Balcombe sidelined through injury, Sunday has recently stepped up into a starting role in the Eagles back court, alongside veteran Joe-Alan Tupaea.

Dech has been in exceptional form for the Eagles, playing a pivotal role in their Quarter-Final sweep of the South West Slammers on Friday night at the Morley Sport and Recreation Centre, finishing with 5 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal and 3 blocks.

Unfortunately a serious knee injury has ruled Balcombe out for the remainder of the 2013 season, meaning Dech will now be required to continue his new role for the Eagles as they look to defeat championship favourites, Lakeside, and qualify for their second consecutive MSBL Grand Final.

Byrnes and Dech are now in contention for the monthly award where the winner of a voting poll receives a pair of shoes of their choice thanks to Kickz101 Perth.
