Kickz101 Perth, Newcomers of the Month (July)

The fans have voted and the July, Kickz101 Perth, Newcomers of the Month have been announced.

The SBL gave the fans the ability to decide who wins the award through a voting poll on Facebook which gained a huge response and closed on Monday morning.

With 156 votes, the Men's Kickz101 Perth, Newcomer of the Month has been awarded to Simon Lokan of the Willetton Tigers.

204cm, Simon Lokan received his weekly nomination in week eighteen of the competition, when he recorded 8 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 block against Tom Jervis before recording an impressive, 15 points, 11 rebounds, 1 assist and 3 blocks in a win over the Goldfields Giants the following day.

At just twenty-two years-of-age, Lokan has been a handy acquisition for the Tigers since transferring from the Lakeside Lightning last season, with fans keen to watch him develop under head coach Matt Foster.

With 132 votes, the Women's Kickz101 Perth, Newcomer of the Month has been awarded to Courtney Byrnes of the Lakeside Lightning.

Twenty-year-old, Byrnes, has already played over one-hundred SBL games having come through the junior ranks at Lakeside and into the WSBL side.

Byrnes weekly nomination came in week seventeen when she scored 21 points which included three crucial three pointers, to go with 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals as the Lightning defeated Mandurah 79 to 65.

Byrnes has taken her game to another level in 2013 and Lakeside will be excited to watch her continue to develop into an elite player of the WSBL.

The State Basketball League would like to congratulate both Byrnes and Lokan who have won a free pair of shoes of their choice from our friends at Kickz101 Perth.
