Suns/Wolves in women's grand final (Saturday Wrap)

AFTER the men's grand final teams for the SBL in 2013 was decided on Friday night, the women's sides to play off in next week's championship decider was determined in semi-final action on Saturday night.

The Australian Belt Scrapers Wanneroo Wolves men's teams beat the Perry Lakes Hawks in Friday night's SBL action with the Lakeside Lightning also downing the People's Choice Eagles to set up a grand final match-up next Saturday night between the Wolves and Lightning.

That meant that on Saturday there was just the women's grand finalists to be decided and now next Friday night, it will be the Wanneroo Wolves taking on the Kalamunda Eastern Suns to play off for the 2013 women's SBL championship next Friday night at the WA Basketball Centre.

The Rockingham Flames and Wanneroo Wolves were tied at one-win apiece heading into Saturday night's Game 3 at Mike Barnett Sports Complex with a grand final place up for grabs.

Wanneroo claimed Game 1 last weekend 89-76 at Joondalup Basketball Stadium before the Flames hit back with an 82-72 victory on Friday night at Mike Barnett Sports Complex.

The Flames opened up a 31-27 lead at half-time in Saturday night's Game 3, but the Wolves dominated the second half with 33 points to 21 to run out eight-point victors and qualify for the grand final.

Shani Amos led the way for Wanneroo with 19 points and three assists with Casey Lockwood adding 16 points and Ainsleigh Sanders just four points, but 12 rebounds, three steals, two assists and two blocked shots.

Kaye Tucker top-scored for Rockingham with 17 points to go with nine rebounds with Samantha Whitcomb adding 12 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. Darcee Garbin also had 12 points and 11 boards.

The Kalamunda Eastern Suns beat the Collie Crane Hire South West Slammers in Game 1 of their semi-final match-up at Eaton Recreation Centre last weekend, and backed that up with a 92-77 Game 2 triumph on Saturday night at Ray Owen Sports Centre.

The Suns have now knocked out the defending champion Slammers to see their women's team qualify for a first ever SBL grand final and it was set up with a dominant 27-15 first quarter on Saturday night.

Jennie Rintala led the way for the Suns with 22 points and 10 rebounds with Melissa Moyle adding 23 points, six assists and four boards.

Adrienne Jones also had 18 points and five assists with Rachel Muenggenborg also finishing with 14 points and three assists.

Kimberly Sitzmann had another massive night for the Slammers with 30 points and nine rebounds on the back of 6-of-9 shooting from three-point territory.

Dannielle Smith had 14 points and 11 boards also for South West with Bianca Donovan finishing with 11 points.
