Big losers out to bounce back (Week 2 Men's SBL Preview)

WEEK 2 of the men's SBL season will see Cockburn and South West out to continue its dominant starts to the campaign and Willetton, Kalamunda and Goldfields trying to find a way to bounce back.

There are two men's SBL matches on Friday night with tip-off for both at 8.30pm with the Perth Redbacks taking on the Perry Lakes Hawks, and the Rockingham Flames playing the Willetton Tigers.

There will then be four games played on Saturday night with the Sun City Plumbing Geraldton Buccaneers facing the Wanneroo Wolves and the Silver Lake Resources Goldfields Giants playing the Lakeside Lightning.

Those two games will tip-off at 7.30pm while at 8.00pm, the Vorian Agency East Perth Eagles will face the Stirling Senators and the Willetton Tigers will take on the Cockburn Cougars.

The Week 2 action will then conclude on Sunday afternoon at 2pm when the Mandurah Magic faces the Rockingham Flames in a local derby.

The weekend begins on Friday with the Redbacks and Hawks meeting at Belmont Oasis with Perth trying to get its second win of the season and Perry Lakes its first.

The Redbacks did beat Rockingham at home last Friday night but then lost to Stirling on Saturday while the Hawks started their 2014 campaign with a high-scoring 10-point loss to the Magic at the WA Basketball Centre.

Friday's other game features the Flames hosting the Tigers at Mike Barnett Sports Complex with Rockingham having lost to Perth by three points and beating Geraldton by seven last weekend.

Meanwhile, Willetton started its 2014 campaign with a 19-point loss at home to Wanneroo last Saturday night.

Then on Saturday night, Geraldton will host Wanneroo at Active West Stadium with the Buccaneers looking for their second win of the season after going 1-1 in Week 1.

Geraldton opened its 2014 season with a seven-point loss to Rockingham before beating Kalamunda on Sunday by 17 points on the road.

Meanwhile, last year's grand finalists Wanneroo started its 2014 campaign well with a 19-point win over the Tigers at Willetton.

The Giants, however, didn’t start what they hoped would be a vastly-improved season in 2014 very well last weekend with a 39-point loss to the Slammers and then a 25-point defeat at the hands of the Eagles.

Goldfields now host the defending champion Lakeside at Neils Hansen Basketball Stadium on Saturday night with the Lightning opening their championship defence with a 13-point victory over East Perth last Friday night.

The Slammers opened their 2014 campaign with a 39-point hammering of the Giants last weekend and will now host a Suns team at Eaton Recreation Centre this weekend who lost to Cockburn by 39 points and Geraldton by 17 last week.

The Eagles will then host the Senators at Morley Sport and Recreation Centre with East Perth having lost to Lakeside but beating Goldfields while Stirling beat the Redbacks by seven points at home last Saturday night.

The final game of Saturday night pits the Tigers against the Cougars at Willetton Basketball Stadium with Willetton looking for its first win of the year while Cockburn is out to consolidate its hot start from Week 1 where the Cougars hammered the Suns by 39 points.

There is then just the one game on Sunday at Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre with the Magic hosting the Flames in a local derby.

Mandurah started 2014 well last Sunday with a 10-point win at the WA Basketball Centre against Perry Lakes while Rockingham had a 1-1 opening weekend, and head into Sunday's clash having already hosted Willetton on Friday night.
