Coaches look ahead to Week 5 of the SBL

SOME SBL men's and women's coaches shared their thoughts about their upcoming matches this weekend in Week 5 of the 2014 season.

WOMEN'S
ROCKINGHAM FLAMES
Coach – Ryan Petrik

This week we play the team that destroyed us in the 2012 Grand Final, the South West Slammers.

Their roster in 2014 is quite different to the one that killed us that day, but they are still led by one of the best in the league in Darren Austin, and have some quality guards in Jeffers, Donovan, and new import Patton.

Our girls always get themselves up for these rematch games because of how we finished 2012, and hopefully coming off the bye this week is no different.

MEN'S
SUN CITY PLUMBING GERALDTON BUCCANEERS
Coach – Mark Heron

They are grabbing a heap of boards this year are Cockburn but we have some tall timber with guys like Bennie Lewis and Carter Cook in the two and three spots, and then Matty Wundenberg, Ballantyne and big Odartey inside.

We are fairly tall, we just haven’t been doing a good job on the glass yet. We are disappointed with that and it's something we are hoping to turn around over the next couple of weeks. Hopefully this week our bigger bodies can keep their more athletic players off the glass.

It will be our first look at their import Anthony Borden. One of the negatives about being in Geraldton is that it's hard to get a look at the new players in the league apart from on some game tape.

To be honest, we don’t know a lot about him but we will do our research leading into the game and we will take the ball at him, but that is usually one of our game plans anyway. We want to get the ball inside to Odartey and when he is playing well it frees up our outside shooters.

ROCKINGHAM FLAMES
Coach – Mark Utley

Will be a good test against a well coached Slammers team. Each week only gets tougher but we are enjoying challenging ourselves.

COLLIE CRANE HIRE SOUTH WEST SLAMMERS
Coach – Ty Harrelson

This week we have our third of four road games in a row against the Rockingham Flames.

It's a tough stretch in the schedule for us as the Flames are in form.

Key matchups will be between Cooper Land and Todd Hendley. Both players are putting up big numbers respectively.

If you get a chance, come out to Rockingham for what is sure to be an exciting high scoring game.
