Coaches react to Week 5 of the SBL

SOME SBL men's and women's coaches shared their thoughts on how their respective fifth round weekends of the 2014 season went.

WOMEN'S
COLLIE CRANE HIRE SOUTH WEST SLAMMERS
Coach – Darren Austin

On the weekend against the Flames we probably played our best game of the year and there were enough positives there that we can bring into the Mandurah game despite the eventual loss.

We just don’t have the big athletes to run with Garbin all night. We have people who can work against her for short periods of time, but she had 28 and 20 and we just couldn’t contain her.

I was really happy with the girls though. We were up by 10 at half-time and Rockingham is on top of the league and have been a quality team for three years so there's no disgrace losing to them.

There were a lot of positives we took out of that game and now we are looking forward to this weekend against Mandurah.

WILLETTON TIGERS
Coach – Brad Spicer

Thank you to the Willetton fans for your support over the last few weeks with the postponed game. Having been out watching some other games over the last few weeks, we take for granted how lucky we are at Willetton with the support the team receives.

After a tough start to the season with three straight losses it was a relief to get a couple of wins on Friday night against the Redbacks and Saturday against the Hawks at home.

In our last game against the Hawks we started to show the potential that we have with a deep squad that is capable of beating any team. That said if we do not continue to improve and show that intensity each week results will not go our way.

MEN'S
ROCKINGHAM FLAMES
Coach – Mark Utley

Wow that was a close one that we probably stole in the finish against the Slammers on Friday night. It was good to execute late, though, and it's obviously good seeing both our teams sit on top of the tables right now.
