Rockingham, Lakeside stay unbeaten (Week 6 Women's SBL Wrap)

THE Rockingham Flames won twice over the Easter Weekend in women's SBL action to remain unbeaten with the Lakeside Lightning also recording a victory to join them on the list of teams yet to taste defeat in 2014.

Week 6 of the women's SBL started way back on Thursday night with the Rockingham Flames beating the Cockburn Cougars 83-55, the Perry Lakes Hawks defeating the Schweigen East Perth Eagles 84-63 and the Joondalup Wolves downing the Stirling Senators 64-61.

There was then a break for Good Friday before hostilities resumed on Saturday night with the Lakeside Lightning beating the Willetton Tigers 83-62, the Mandurah Magic defeating the Collie Crane Hire South West Slammers 87-82 and the Rockingham Flames downing the Kalamunda Eastern Suns 94-64.

There was then the one game on Easter Monday to close out the round with the Joondalup Wolves defeating the Perth Redbacks 66-51.

The results still leave two undefeated team in the women's SBL competition with the Rockingham Flames on top of the standings at 7-0 closely followed by the Lakeside Lightning on 6-0.

The Mandurah Magic (5-2) improved to third position followed by the Joondalup Wolves (4-2), Cockburn Cougars (3-2), Perry Lakes Hawks (3-3), Stirling Senators (2-3) and the Willetton Tigers (2-4) rounding out the top-eight.

Just outside are the Kalamunda Eastern Suns (2-5), Schweigen East Perth Eagles (2-5), Collie Crane Hire South West Slammers (1-3) and the winless Perth Redbacks (0-8).

With the seven women's matches over the course of the weekend, there were again some tremendous individual performances as well.

Samantha Whitcomb was the star for the Flames on Thursday night finishing with 26 points, seven rebounds and four assists with Kaye Tucker adding 16 points, six boards and five assists.

Darcee Garbin also contributed 13 points and seven boards with Holly Coomey finishing with 10 touches and six rebounds.

Emma Pass worked hard for Cockburn finishing with 16 points and seven rebounds with Marita Payne adding 15 points, 11 rebounds and four blocked shots.

Kate Anthony was the star for Perry Lakes with 24 points, seven assists and six rebounds with Sarah Donovan 17 points and 11 boards, and Anna Kovats 17 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, four steals and a block.

Nicole Jorre St Jorre did all she could for East Perth with 24 points, five rebounds, five steals and three assists.

Nikita-Lee Martin starred for Joondalup with 23 points, four rebounds and four assists with Ellyce Ironmonger adding 10 points and 17 boards.

Taylor Wild led the way for the Senators with 15 points and seven rebounds.

On Saturday night, Kari Pickens led the way for Lakeside with 21 points and 14 rebounds with Krystal Stoneking adding 21 points and seven boards.

Melissa Marsh top-scored for the Tigers with 13 points with Desiree Kelley adding 12 points and Lisa Wallbutton 11 to go with seven rebounds. Antonia Edmondson finished with six points, six rebounds and five assists.

Casey Mihovilovich was once again outstanding for Mandurah with 30 points and six assists on the back of shooting 12-of-20 from the field and 2-of-4 from downtown.

Ashlee Sidebottom added 22 points and five rebounds for the Magic while shooting 9-of-11 from the floor while Hailey Dunham finished with 11 points and 14 rebounds.

Amy Patton did all she could for the Slammers with 31 points and 14 rebounds shooting 14-of-22 from the floor.

Jacinta Bourne led the way for the Flames on Saturday with 22 points and five rebounds with Darcee Garbin adding 21 points and 11 boards.

Samantha Whitcomb also contributed 19 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists while Kaye Tucker added in 17 points and seven boards.

Again only seven players suited up for the Eastern Suns with Jennie Rintala leading the way with 19 points and nine rebounds.

Then finally on Easter Monday, Alex Kerr finished with 15 points, five rebounds and five blocked shots for the Wolves while Ellyce Ironmonger added 13 points and 11 boards.

Jessica Jakens led the way for Perth finishing with 18 points and six rebounds with Alix Hayward adding 12 points, 10 boards and five steals.
