SOME SBL men's and women's coaches shared their thoughts on how their respective seventh round weekends of the 2014 season went.

We saw Bunbury only 13 days earlier and then this week we rocked up with them without Jeffers so we just wanted to get it over and done with really and get on to Lakeside on Sunday. With no Jeffers for them, Patton had to do everything so we locked on to her and she had 17 points on 17 shots. We got out of there with the win. We got no injuries and got through all 11 girls and Bunbury played all 10 of theirs, and we got out of there with a win so we were happy with that.

We hadn’t seen Lakeside yet this season apart from film, but generally speaking we've had a half in most games we've played so far this year that we've won by 25 or 30 points. This is the first game we've had all season without a half like that. We just couldn’t hit the gear that we have in every other game, and Lakeside was terrific not letting us get to it. They scouted us well and held us to 76 points and that's even though I thought we were good offensively. I love Pickens as a player, she's amazing, and most coaches like tall guards and she's 6'2 or 6'3 and had 21 rebounds. She was a beast.

She (Kate Anthony) was really the reason why we did win that game against the Redbacks. If you look through the stat line, the Redbacks had a very good game and beat us in a lot of categories including outrebounding us, and shooting 67 per cent from the three-point line, 50 per cent from the field and about 80 per cent from the free-throw line. They did a lot of good things, but because they have a young team they just didn’t know how to take it to the finish line. They did do well and to our credit, the girls fought out a gutsy win. That will help us in the long run.

It would have been good to get over the line today after a good win in Bunbury on Thursday. I think we missed the depth we get from Travis Moore as an extra body on Palkert and Prue but we can't help if he goes around biting the opposition. Oh well time to focus on the Buccs who will be tough.
