TWO of the country's best centres are back in the SBL as of this weekend with Tom Jervis returning to the East Perth Eagles and Luke Nevill back with the Kalamunda Eastern Suns.

And not only will the two return to SBL action this weekend but Jervis and Nevill will also battle one another when the Vorian Agency East Perth Eagles host the Kalamunda Eastern Suns on Sunday at Morley Sport and Recreation Centre.

Jervis is coming off a dream NBL rookie season with the 27-year-old playing a key role in the Perth Wildcats' record-extending sixth championship while Nevill dominated playing in Chinese Taipei, is again part of the Australian Boomers squad and is set to make a huge impact for the Eastern Suns.

The seven-foot Jervis is coming off a dream rookie NBL season that saw him win a championship and be named the league's Rookie of the Year, and now he is set to play again this season with the Vorian Agency East Perth Eagles.

Last season in 29 matches with the Eagles, Jervis was outstanding with 21.2 points, 12.3 rebounds and 2.9 blocks a game in a team that ended up making the semi finals.

That performance earned him a contract spot with the Perth Wildcats after being a training squad member at different times in past seasons.

The 27-year-old belatedly got his chance to show what he could do at NBL level and he was terrific all season long for the Wildcats, especially when the starting centre in the absence of the injured Matt Knight but including the playoff run and the grand final series against the Adelaide 36ers.

Jervis averaged 5.1 points and 5.1 rebounds a game that saw him named as the NBL Rookie of the Year.

Now he has an NBL championship ring, as does his East Perth teammate Drew Williamson, and he will be ready to help lead the Eagles back towards the top-eight with them currently sitting in 11th position with a 4-8 record.

East Perth this weekend takes on the in-form Willetton Tigers on Saturday night at Morley Sport and Recreation Centre and then backs up on Sunday with a clash with the Kalamunda Eastern Suns where Jervis is set to go up against Nevill.

While the 7'2 Nevill is going to be a huge addition for a Kalamunda Eastern Suns team looking for a spark after starring in Chinese Taipei for the Taiwan Mobile Clouded Leopards.

He brings with him the experience of four years at the University of Utah, time in the NBA Summer League and on the verge of earning an NBA roster spot as well as in the NBL with the Melbourne Tigers, Perth Wildcats and Townsville Crocodiles

Nevill was a dominant presence last year for the Eastern Suns as well despite the team only winning four matches. In 17 appearances, he averaged 32.3 points, 15.2 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 2.2 blocks a game.

There is every reason to suggest that the in-game shape Nevill can at least replicate those numbers again for the Suns.

Nevill is just coming off an outstanding with Taiwan Mobile in the Taiwanese Basketball League where over the course of 36 matches, he averaged 20.7 points. 11.7 rebounds, 1.8 blocks and 1.8 assists per game while shooting at 54.8 per cent from two-point range, 33.3 per cent from long range and 75.8 per cent from the foul line.

Most recently Nevill was part of the Taiwan Mobile's playoff run firstly leading them to a 4-3 series victory over Taiwan Beer when his team won Game 7 78-76 with Nevill having 27 points and 23 rebounds in the deciding contest.

Taiwan Mobile then lost in five games to the Pure Youth 4-1 only managing to win Game 4 of the series where Nevill finished with 23 points and 15 rebounds.

Game 5 of that series only took place on Sunday so Nevill has quickly returned home to Perth, has been cleared to return for the Kalamunda Eastern Suns and looks set to play this weekend against the East Perth Eagles.

Nevill has also been included in the Australian Boomers squad for the upcoming annual series against China that begins with two games at Challenge Stadium on Thursday May 29 and Saturday May 31.
