Eagles too good for Slammers
Wildcat Tom Jervis was held to just five points and five rebounds but the Collie Crane Hire South West Slammers could not contain East Perth’s other weapons as the Eagles breezed to a 97-68 victory at the Eaton Recreation Centre on Saturday.
Jervis, who spent part of the week in Melbourne discussing a possible NBL move to the Tigers, was kept in check for most of the night but it was of little consequence with East Perth scoring almost at will for large stretches of the game.
Four Eagles hit double digits with point guard Kyle Armour leading the way with 19 points and eight assists, including three from beyond the arc.
The Slammers physical approach to the game quickly came undone with the umpire’s whistles sounding early and often, Clive Weeden and Todd Hendley both attracting questionable charging fouls at different points of the match.
The home side was also hurt by the creativity of East Perth’s guards who limited turnovers while consistently creating space around the perimeter to allow a lot of open looks from the three point line.
Bolstering the Eagles already impressive line-up was returning Wildcats development player Mathiang Muo who hit a pair of first half threes from the wing in limited playing time.
Ty Harrelson (23 points, nine rebounds) top scored for the Slammers while Todd Hendley (17 points, six rebounds, three blocks) was also a solid contributor.
The Slammers remain seventh on the ladder despite the loss and will look to bounce back against the third-placed Joondalup Wolves on Saturday.
