Coaches react to Week 11 of the SBL

SOME SBL women's and men's coaches shared their thoughts on how their respective 11th round weekends of the 2014 season went.

WOMEN'S
KALAMUNDA EASTERN SUNS
Coach – Craig Mansfield

Coming off the bye round is always an unknown situation and we had only completed one full training in the last fortnight as well.

We were pleased to get away with a win over Tigers but it was far from a complete performance. The overwhelming positive for us was the contributions we got from our full line-up.

Foul trouble forced us to use some of our role players for nearly the entire second quarter and we were still able to be 21 up at the half. It is a credit to the efforts our entire squad puts in every week (at trainings and extra sessions) and shows some of the development work fantastic people do at Eastern Suns in the WABL program.

First game for Willetton with a new coach and only half a training session would have been challenging for them, I’m sure they will continue to improve over the coming rounds and we wish Simon Parker and the girls the best of luck for the remainder of 2014.

ORANGE AUTOS ROCKINGHAM FLAMES
Coach – Ryan Petrik

Again really pleasing going two for two over the weekend. We're probably about 30 per cent off the level we were at about five weeks ago but that's not surprising considering the win streak and the amount of time we've given the squad off practice lately.

Everyone says we need to lose one shortly to get back on track, but with the pain this squad has gone through the last two years I'm not sure the girls are too keen to just let that happen.

MEN'S
PERRY LAKES HAWKS
Coach – Charles Nix

It was an exceptional, gritty win by us on Friday in double overtime against Stirling. Ryan O'Sullivan hit a massive three-pointer in the first overtime to tie it so that we went into a second one. We were fortunate to get the win in the end even though we did it the hard way.

Coach – Mark Utley

Now that wasn't a good weekend for us at all. We have to just go back and make some adjustments.
