Coaches look ahead to Week 12 of the SBL

SOME SBL women's and men's coaches shared their thoughts about their upcoming matches this weekend in Week 12 of the 2014 season.

WOMEN'S
KALAMUNDA EASTERN SUNS
Coach – Craig Mansfield

We played Lakeside earlier in the year and lost a thriller by a point. In that early stage of the season we were still learning to play together, establish new roles and were awaiting the return of a couple of players.

The girls were disappointed to lose right at the end but I was happy with the effort and attitude we displayed. A lot has changed since, we are almost back to full health and have been improving each week.

There are no more moral victories and we expect to play well and be in positions to win games against any opposition. The Lightning are having a fantastic season and rebound the ball frenetically, this is not one of our strengths currently and we will need to step up to the challenge.

It should be a fantastic game so anyone with some free time Friday night I would encourage to get up to Ray Owen Sports Centre.

MANDURAH MAGIC
Coach – Randy Miegel

As a squad we appreciated the bye last weekend and had a lighter training week. We all understand the challenge that awaits us on Sunday afternoon at Joondalup playing the defending champions at home.

Also with them coming off a loss against the South West Slammers last weekend they will be keen to bounce back quickly. For us to continue to be competitive we must get back to playing good team defence, we have been giving up way too many points in recent games. We are looking forward to getting back on court.

ORANGE AUTOS ROKINGHAM FLAMES
Coach – Ryan Petrik

This week we head to WABC to take on the Hawks. Two of our last three games there have been absolutely awful; losing a grand final on that court in 2012 by 1000, and last year's 36-point drubbing at the hands of the Hawks.

If you are going to win it, you need to be able to play well on that stage.

MEN'S
PERRY LAKES HAWKS
Coach – Charles Nix

We are under no illusion that we are up against it on Friday against Rockingham with their quality with the Lands, Remmerswaal and Godfrey has come back and he's strong, and a great shooter. They are going to be tough and we have to play tough defence, and if we play the defence we know we can play we can compete and beat any team. It just comes down to defence really.

We then play the Giants on Sunday and they seem to be hitting some form as is our luck. We are starting to get together, though, so I think we will pick up more than we drop in the second half of the year.

Coach – Mark Utley

It doesn't get easier with a key game at Perry Lakes for us this weekend. We will come ready as I know the Hawks will as well.
