Garbin stars for league-leading Flames (Week 13 Women's SBL Wrap)

THE Rockingham Flames showed that they can still dominate even with Samantha Whitcomb a little quiet with Darcee Garbin outstanding for the unbeaten women's SBL leaders in Week 13 while the Cockburn Cougars had an outstanding weekend with two victories.

In the four women's matches on Friday night to open Week 13 SBL, the Mandurah Magic beat the Perth Redbacks 83-51 at Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre and the Perry Lakes Hawks won a 69-65 thriller over the Collie Crane Hire South West Slammers at the WA Basketball Centre.

The other two matches of the night saw the Soprano Lady Cougars return to the winner's list beating the Willetton tigers 69-56 at Wally Hagan Stadium and the Stirling Senators defeating the Schweigen East Perth Eagles 80-71 at Warwick Leisure Centre.

The three women's matches on Saturday night saw the Soprano Lady Cougars beat the Collie Crane Hire South West Slammers 61-50 at Eaton Recreation Centre, the Orange Autos Rockingham Flames defeat the Stirling Senators 72-60 at Mike Barnett Sports Complex and the Kalamunda Eastern Suns beat the Perry Lakes Hawks 90-72 at Ray Owen Sports Centre.

The results on the weekend leave the Orange Autos Rockingham Flames clear on top of the standings with a 16-0 record.

The Lakeside Lightning (11-3) are clear in second followed by the Mandurah Magic (10-4), Joondalup Wolves (9-4), Stirling Senators (9-5), Soprano Lady Cougars (8-7), Kalamunda Eastern Suns (7-7) and the Collie Crane Hire South West Slammers (5-9).

Just behind them outside the top-eight are the Perry Lakes Hawks (5-9), Willetton Tigers (4-10), Schweigen East Perth Eagles (2-13) and the Perth Redbacks (0-15).

The weekend was also notable for two big milestones with Chelsea Boyanich of the Perry Lakes Hawks reaching 300 matches in the SBL and Chelsea Armstrong 200 for the Kalamunda Eastern Suns.

There were once again some outstanding individual performances across the weekend as well.

On Friday night, Casey Mihovilovich top-scored for the Magic with 23 points, five blocked shots and four rebounds with Hailey Dunham contributing 17 points and eight boards.

Alix Hayward worked hard for the Redbacks and ended up with 16 points and 15 rebounds.

Kate Anthony led the way for the Hawks with 19 points while Megan McKay finished with nine points and 10 rebounds.

Lauren Jeffers finished with 22 points, eight rebounds, six assists and three steals for the Slammers with Amy Patton adding 19 points and five boards.

Taryn Priestly finished with 19 points, eight rebounds and four assists for the Cougars with Emma Pass adding 19 points, five boards and three assists, and Marita Payne 16 points, nine rebounds and six blocked shots.

Lisa Wallbutton led the way for the Tigers with 18 points and five rebounds with Melissa Marsh adding 13 points.

Taylor Wild ended up scoring 22 points for the Senators with Tegan Walker adding 12 points and six rebounds, and Emma Berryman 11 points to go with six assists.

Stephanie Jones had a huge night for the Eagles with 28 points, eight rebounds and three assists. Dannielle Devenny also had 12 points for East Perth.

Then on Saturday night, Marita Payne led the way for the Cougars with 21 points, 17 rebounds and three blocked shots with Taryn Priestly contributing 14 points and seven assists.

Brittany Gliddon top-scored for the Slammers with 14 points and five rebounds with Amy Patton adding 10 points, 15 rebounds and seven assists.

Darcee Garbin had a standout night for the Flames with Samantha Whitcomb a little quiet. The emerging young centre finished with 28 points, nine rebounds and three assists for the unbeaten Rockingham.

Tarsha Fletcher also added 17 points, six rebounds and five assists while Whitcomb had just the seven points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Amber Land top-scored for the Senators with 13 points, eight rebounds and three assists with Taylor Bestry, Taylor Wild and Hannah Throns all adding 10 points apiece.

Alison Schwagmeyer led the way for Kalamunda with 18 points, eight assists and five rebounds.

Jessie Edwards was another star of the night for the Eastern Suns finishing with 16 points and six rebounds while shooting 4-of-6 from the field.

Jennie Rintala also scored 16 points for the Suns to go with seven rebounds with Chelsea Armstrong contributing 13 points and Adrienne Jones 10.

Kate Anthony did all she could for the Hawks finishing with 20 points and four assists with Chelsea Boyanich finishing with 13 points and four boards.
