Coaches react to Week 15 of the SBL

THREE women's SBL coaches shared their thoughts on how their respective 15th round weekends of the 2014 season went.

WOMEN'S
KALAMUNDA EASTERN SUNS
Coach – Craig Mansfield

Obviously now we have got healthy and that's not just in games, but we have managed to get people on court to practice and we've put together a pretty good month. It is just rewards of the work done and Friday was a big win for us over the Flames.

In terms of a spectacle for what women's SBL is, it was an incredible game and both teams combined for only 20 turnovers and 35 assists with both teams shooting at 40 per cent. It was a high standard of basketball and for us we have a philosophy defensively we are working on where we are trying to pressure a bit, and we want to be committed to our game plan and run back. We tried to stay tough defensively and then the fourth quarter could have gone either way, and we just managed to get hot and made some good plays at crucial times. It was just a fantastic game of basketball. Then on Saturday, we also beat the Cougars to get the double.

MANDURAH MAGIC
Coach – Randy Miegel

The most pleasing part of our game on the weekend against the Eagles was our defensive intensity to keep them to 40 points for the game was an outstanding effort by the girls. For us to continue to be competitive we need to play good team defence.

This week's game against the Senators will be a tough contest. We played a tight game earlier in the year at their house. We have four out of our last five games home in Mandurah so we need to try and make the most of that advantage as we push towards a playoff spot.

ORANGE AUTOS ROCKINGHAM FLAMES
Coach – Ryan Petrik

I'm not sure you'll see a higher quality game than the one played last Friday night. Game 3 type atmosphere yielded just 20 turnovers between the two teams combined, which is unheard of in the WSBL. These two teams tend to bring out the best in each other on court.

I thought they were brilliant, putting up 84 points on us was way too many. I thought we gave great effort on that end but it wasn't enough. And even whilst we were outplayed for 32 minutes, from late in the first quarter onwards, were up by three with two minutes to play with a shot at pinching it. Expertly coached with star talent and a deep bench, they'll be there late August.
