Kickz101 Perth SBL Players of the Week

The week fifteen “Kickz101 Perth” Men’s SBL Player of the Week has been awarded to Luke Nevill of the Kalamunda Eastern Suns.

Prior to Friday night’s game, Kalamunda sat at the foot of the table and not many would have given them much of a chance to defeat the second place Rockingham Flames on their home floor, however in the upset of the season the Eastern Suns were victorious by a massive 36 points.

Australian Boomer Luke Nevill was a massive part of Kalamunda’s dominance over the Flames recording 33 points, 16 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 blocks.

Twenty-four hours later, the Eastern Suns were riding a wave of confidence and welcomed the Cockburn Cougars to their home venue at Ray Owen Sports Centre.

Luke Nevill put together one of the performances of the year in the SBL with 48 points, 22 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 blocks to lead Kalamunda to a fifteen point victory over the Cougars 118 to 103.

The weekends double lifted the Eastern Suns off the bottom of the ladder and would have given the young squad a much needed confidence boost.

Other considerations for this week’s award included;

Jordan Wild (Stirling), Benjamin Smith (Kalamunda), Lee Roberts (Perth), Ben Purser (Perry lakes), Markus Monroe (South West), Tom Jervis (East Perth), Ephrem Davis (Joondalup), Quinn McDowell (Willetton), Damien Scott (Cockburn), Gavin Field (Cockburn),  Duran Blue (Goldfields), Cooper Land (Rockingham) , Matt Wundenberg (Geraldton), Bennie Lewis (Geraldton), Carter Cook (Geraldton), John Dickson (Willetton), Clive Weedon (South West), Adrian Majstrovich (Goldfields), Taylor Mullenax (Mandurah), Stanley Okoye (Perth), Brad Tinsley (Lakeside) & Cody Ellis (Stirling).

The week fifteen “Kickz101 Perth” Women’s SBL Player of the Week has been awarded to Alison Schwagmeyer of the Kalamunda Eastern Suns.

The Eastern Suns needed to pull out something special if they wanted to break the seventeen game winning streak of the undefeated Rockingham Flames at Mike Barnett Sports Complex on Friday night.

Kalamunda did pull something special out and recorded a six point victory over the Flames 84-78 on the back of an outstanding performance by import Alison Schwagmeyer with 20 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals.

The next test for the Eastern Suns was how they would back up the next night at home against the highly rated Cockburn Cougars. Schwagmeyer was again outstanding for the home side, leading all scorers with 20 points to go with 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals.

The weekends double was a huge boost for the Eastern Suns as they now sit in sixth place after a five game winning streak and stay in touch with the top four.

Mandurah Magic star Casey Mihovilovich was unlucky to miss out on this week’s award after putting together an incredible stat line of 11 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, 10 steals and 6 blocks in their 35 point win over the East Perth Eagles on Friday night at the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre.

Other considerations for the award included;

Alex Kerr (Joondalup), Hailey Dunham (Mandurah), Stephanie Jones (East Perth), Amy Patton (South West), Samantha Whitcomb (Rockingham), Marita Payne (Cockburn), Amber Land (Stirling), Gabby O’Sullivan (Perth), Emily Fielding (Lakeside), Darcee Garbin (Rockingham) & Jennie Rintala (Kalamunda).
