Redbacks Celebrate 50th Anniversary in Style
The Perth Redbacks’ Men’s and Women’s State Basketball League teams celebrated their club’s 50th Anniversary fixture in style by winning both games against the Bunbury Slammers.
In front of a vocal home-game crowd of over 500, the Redbacks’ women stunned the Slammers to win their first game of the year 88 to 78.
Redbacks’ shooting guard Gabby O’Sullivan was the standout player with a game-high 32 together with 10 rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Power-forward Jessica Jakens was their next highest scorer with 17 along with 11 rebounds, three assists and two steals while centre Alix Hayward had 14 and four rebounds.
The Redbacks’ men dominated the game in their 111 to 81 win against the Slammers.
Redbacks’ small-forward Stan Okoye was the game-high scorer with 25 along with 11 rebounds, four steals and two assists.
Point-guard Joel Wagner scored 20 and had six assists and five rebounds while power-forward Lee Roberts scored 17 and had 11 rebounds, four assists and two steals.
This was the Redbacks’ men’s third win in a row and sees them with 14 wins and nine losses and in fourth position in the 14-team competitions.
The Redbacks next home-game is this Saturday at the Belmont Oasis Leisure Centre in a vital fixture clash the East Perth Eagles, with the women’s game tipping off at 6PM and the men’s game at 8PM.
