Buccs, Flames, Redbacks the only men's teams sleeping easy (Week 19 Men's SBL Wrap)

GERALDTON, Rockingham and Perth look secure in the top three men's positions following Week 19 of the 2014 SBL campaign but the battle between fourth and ninth is now fascinating heading into the final weekend of the regular season.

The Buccaneers are a game clear on top of the standings with the Flames then a game clear in second and the Redbacks another game clear in third.

That's where it gets interesting, though, with the Lightning and Senators on 15 wins, and the Wolves, Eagles and Slammers on 14 to make up the top eight while the Magic sits just outside with 13 but with the chance to end up on 15 as the only team of the top nine with two games next weekend.

Friday night's results saw the Stirling Senators beat the Lakeside Lightning 114-105 at Lakeside Recreation Centre, the Orange Autos Rockingham Flames beat the Perry Lakes Hawks 105-98 at Mike Barnett Sports Complex and the Perth Redbacks down the Raw Nutrition Cockburn Cougars 107-102 at Wally Hagan Stadium.

Then on Saturday night, the Collie Crane Hire South West Slammers beat the Sun City Plumbing Geraldton Buccaneers 104-102 at Eaton Recreation Centre and the Silver Lake Resources Goldfields Giants upset the Mandurah Magic 116-111 at Kambalda Recreation Centre.

The Perth Redbacks also defeated the Vorian Agency East Perth Eagles 91-79 at Belmont Oasis and the Joondalup Wolves downed the Willetton Tigers 121-111 at Joondalup Basketball Stadium.

There were then the two men's matches on Sunday afternoon with the league-leading Sun City Plumbing Geraldton Buccaneers thumping the Willetton Tigers 139-92 at Willetton Basketball Stadium and the Perry Lakes Hawks defeating the Kalamunda Eastern Suns 92-78 at the WA Basketball Centre.

The weekend's results leave the Sun City Plumbing Geraldton Buccaneers (18-7) a game clear on top of the men's standings with one match to go ahead of the Orange Autos Rockingham Flames (17-8).

The Perth Redbacks (16-9) are then one game further back following a two-win weekend stretching their winning run to five.

The defending champion Lakeside Lightning (15-10) are then in fourth position just ahead of the Stirling Senators (15-10), Joondalup Wolves (14-11), Vorian Agency East Perth Eagles (14-11) and Collie Crane Hire South West Slammers (14-11).

The Mandurah Magic (13-11) now sit outside the top eight after two straight losses but two games next weekend at home to the Tigers and away to the Slammers mean they aren’t yet out of playoff contention.

Then there are the out of playoff contention teams with the Perry Lakes Hawks (11-14) in 10th position followed by the Raw Nutrition Cockburn Cougars (9-16), Willetton Tigers (8-16), Kalamunda Eastern Suns (6-19) and Silver Lake Resources Goldfields Giants (4-21).
