Redbacks Zap Lightning

The Perth Redbacks Men’s and Women’s State Basketball League teams had impressive away-game wins against Lakeside Lightning.

The Redbacks’ women dominated Lightning, who played in last year's grand final, 68 to 36 to record their first win of the year.

Guard Gabby Clayton top-scored for the Redbacks with 15 along with five steals, six rebounds and two assists, while Lauren Hall scored 14 and had 11 rebounds.

The win sees the Redbacks’ Women’s team with one win and one loss and in seventh-place in the 12-team competition.

The Redbacks’ Men came back strongly after being 17 points down in the second half to record a fighting 107-104 win against Lightning.

New Redbacks’ import player Marshall Brown scored a massive 48 along with seven rebounds, two steals and two assists while fellow import player Ray Turner put in 24 and had 14 rebounds.

However, the Redbacks’ Men’s Team was not able to continue this momentum in their second game of the weekend against Geraldton Buccaneers at the Curtin University Stadium going down 73 to 90.

Shooting guard Ben Smith top-scored for the Redbacks with 21 while point guard Joel Wagner scored 10 along with four assist and two steals.

The split-result sees the Redbacks’ men in 11th place in the 14-team competition with one win and two losses.

The action continues this Friday when the Redbacks play an away game against the Rockingham Flames at the Mike Barnett Stadium, with the women’s game starting at 6:30PM and the men’s game at 8:30PM.

This is followed by a home-game on Sunday against Mandurah Magic at the Curtin University Stadium with the women’s game tipping off at midday and the men’s game at 2PM.
