SBL Players of the Week

The week three Men’s SBL Player of the Week has been awarded to Najee Lane of the Soprano Designs Cockburn Cougars.

The Cougars continue to surprise this season with import Najee Lane a major contributor to their successful start to 2015.

Cockburn went into Friday night’s match against the Tigers at Willetton Basketball Stadium as heavy underdogs and almost pulled off a brilliant upset eventually going down by just two points. Najee Lane led the Cougars with an impressive 26 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals.

On Saturday the Cougars looked to bounce back when they took on 2014 champions the East Perth Eagles at Wally Hagan Stadium. Lane was again Cockburn’s best with a monster stat line of 22 points, 17 rebounds, 9 assists and 3 steals as his side upset the Eagles 110-94.

Saturday’s win puts the Cougars into seventh position and sets up an exciting match-up on Saturday night with the Rockingham Flames who currently sit in third position.

Other considerations for this week’s award included;

Tre Nichols (South West), Gavin Field (Cockburn), Jordan Swing (Lakeside), Mathiang Muo (Goldfields),  Lien Phillip (Kalamunda), Brian Voelkel (South West), Trian Iliadis (Joondalup), Taylor Land (Rockingham),  Bryton Hobbs (Perry Lakes), Ray Turner (Perth) & Kevin Davis (Joondalup).

 

The week three Women’s SBL Player of the Week has been awarded to Deonica McCormick of the Collie Crane Hire South West Slammers.

The Slammers have made the perfect start to season 2015 with four straight wins to sit equal top of the WSBL standings.

Much of the team’s success has been on the back of some outstanding performances by import Deonica McCormick.

McCormick put her talents on display in Friday night’s match up against the Stirling Senators at Warwick Leisure Centre where she recorded 22 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals to lead the Slammers to a nine point victory 71 to 62.

On Sunday McCormick starred again with a massive 31 points, 6 rebounds & 6 assists as the Slammers defeated the Kalamunda Eastern Suns 80-77 at Eaton Recreation Centre.

On Thursday the Slammers now face the also undefeated Mandurah Magic in a blockbuster top of the table clash.
