Week 2 Women's SBL Quarter Final Preview

THE Rockingham Flames, Willetton Tigers, Joondalup Wolves and Mandurah Magic all return home this weekend with two chances to advance to the women's semi finals in the SBL for 2015.

The Flames, Tigers, Wolves and Magic all won their Game 1 quarter-final match ups last weekend on the road to now need to win just one of their potential two matches this weekend to advance to the semi finals.

Meanwhile, the Cockburn Cougars, Perry Lakes Hawks, South West Slammers and Kalamunda Eastern Suns all need to win twice on the road if they are to advance.

Three of the four Game 2 match ups take place on Friday night starting at 6.30pm with the Orange Autos Rockingham Flames playing the Soprano Designs Cockburn Cougars at Mike Barnett Sports Complex.

Then at 7.30pm, the Mandurah Magic play the Kalamunda Eastern Suns at Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre, and the Goodlife Homes Willetton Tigers face the Perry Lakes Hawks at Willetton Basketball Stadium.

All three Game 3 matches of these series' will then take place on Saturday night if required at the same venues.

Then on Saturday night, the Merriwa Tavern & Bistro Joondalup City Wolves take on the Collie Crane Hire South West Slammers at Joondalup Basketball Stadium at 6pm. Game 3 will then be back at Joondalup at noon on Sunday if required.

In the quarter finals last weekend, the Flames proved too good for the Cougars at Wally Hagan Stadium winning 79-48 leaving Cockburn with the unenviable task of now needing to win twice at Rockingham this weekend to upset the defending champion minor premiers.

Predictably the Magic and Eastern Suns played out the most competitive of the Game 1 quarter finals last weekend with Mandurah ending up beating Kalamunda 64-53, but having to come from behind to do so after Casey Mihovilovich sat out the first half with a finger injury.

However, she played in the second half and the Magic were able to come from behind to score the 11-point win to now give them two chances at home this weekend to advance to the semi finals as the fourth placed team up against the fifth ranked Suns.

The Tigers only narrowly missed claiming the minor premiership at the end of the regular season and they were able to score a 69-53 win over the Hawks last Friday night at Bendat Basketball Centre with Louella Tomlinson a dominant presence.

Willetton now has two chances at home to advance to the semi finals while Perry Lakes must win twice on the road to score the upset from seventh position but the Tigers are yet to lose on their home floor so far this season.

The Wolves were sitting solid in third position for most of the regular season and now are in a strong position to move through to the semi finals after winning Game 1 over the Slammers last Friday night 88-65, but South West still has enough firepower to give Joondalup some trouble this weekend.
