Week Seventeen – SBL Players of the Week

THE week seventeen Men’s SBL Player of the Week has been awarded to Daniel Alexander of the Lakeside Lightning.

Lakeside star import Daniel Alexander has been super impressive in his first SBL season, exciting the crowd with his athletic dunks while showcasing his skill, averaging 27.3 points and 12.3 rebounds per game.

On Friday night, Alexander was influential in the Lightning’s 105-99 away win over the Kalamunda Eastern Suns with 8 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and a block.

It was Saturday night’s performance that was most special from Lakeside’s big man as he put together a huge triple double in front of the home crowd to defeat the Perth Redbacks 99 to 91.

Alexander stuffed the stat sheet and was the difference in the game with a complete performance of 35 points, 18 rebounds, 10 assists, 1 steal, 3 blocks and recorded just one turnover in 42 minutes.

With rumours of interest from NBL clubs, fans will be hoping to see Alexander playing in Australia for an extended period and return to the SBL in 2017.

THE week seventeen Women’s SBL Player of the Week has been awarded to Candace Williams of the Lapa Brazilian BBQ Restaurant Cockburn Cougars.

Cockburn import Candace Williams has continued her red hot form in the SBL with another stunning performance on the weekend.

Friday night saw the Cougars take on the South West Slammers at Wally Hagan Stadium where Williams put together an amazing game of 31 points, 26 rebounds, 4 assists and a steal to guide her team to an 85-62 victory.

Williams was at it again on Saturday with another huge game of 26 points, 19 rebounds and 2 assists in a narrow three point loss to the Stirling Senators 85-82.

Williams has been putting up huge numbers in the SBL as she leads the league in both points (29.5pg) and rebounds (16.5pg) and is the key to the Cougars pushing for a playoff spot as they currently sit in ninth position.
