The Joondalup City Wolves took on the Australian Central Eagles after a first up loss in Round 1. The Eagles welcomed import Kelsey Maffin into the team and were competitive, being down just 4 in the first period. However a 26-13 second period saw the Wolves take control with a 17 point lead at the half. The Eagles continued to be competitive in the third period, holding the Wolves to just ten points, however the only managed to reduce the lead by three points at the last change. The Wolves again controlled the fourth and ran out 22 point winners 83-61. Chelsea Armstrong impressed for the Wolves with 22 points while import Kelsey Maffin led the way for the Eagles with 24 points and 8 rebounds.

The Stirling Senators welcomed the Southside Mitsubishi Redbacks to Warwick looking for their first win, while the Redbacks were looking to split their round after a loss to the Tigers on Friday. The Redbacks controlled the match from start to finish leading 27-18 at the first change and they took a 13 point lead into the main break. Gabbi Clayton fought hard for the home side with 11 points for the half but they lacked the offensive firepower to keep up with the Redbacks. The Redbacks put on the deadlock in the third period and held the Senators to just five points while stretching their lead to 24. The Redbacks were winners 76-58 with Brooke Hiddlestone leading the way with 26 points and 15 rebounds. Clayton fought hard for the Senators with 20 points while Alicia Rinaldi had 17.

The Southlands Boulevarde Willetton Tigers welcomed the Metropolis Fremantle Cougars for the cross town rivalry. The first quarter saw the Tigers take a ten point lead into the first change and had increased it to 11 by the major break. The Tigers took control of the game in the third with a 27-11 period taking a 27 point lead into ¾ time. With the damage done the Tigers took out the game 85-57 to jump to 5th on the ladder with a 3-1 record. Ashley Gilmore led the way with 22 points & 14 rebounds. Danni Priestly & Ebony Antonio both scored in double figures with 11 & 10 points each. Lynx player Emma Pass was the only Cougar to hit double figures with 17 points & 10 rebounds.

The Skilled Goldfields Giants fans got their first look of the 2009 team that will be going for the three-peat in 2009. The Giants managed to escape with a one point win in a low scoring tussle 77-76. The Giants took the first quarter 25-2 but a low scoring second quarter saw the Hawks edge slightly into the Giants lead with the locals up three points at the main change. By halfway through the third period the Hawks took a one point lead thanks to a Joe-Alan Tupaea shot. However the lead was short lived with the Giants taking the lead straight back and heading into the last change up by two points. The Giants maintained their lead for the entire fourth quarter until a Martin Vahala free throw gave the visitors a one point lead with 17 seconds to play. Ryan Hulme converted a Michael Haney assist with 3 seconds remaining to give the Giants back the lead. The Hawks had a chance to win the game with one seconds.

The Buccs dropped into Eaton to tackle the Carpet Court Slammers on Saturday night after their impressive Round 1 win over the Flames. The Dominos Geraldton Buccaneers dominated every quarter of the game to lead by 10 at the first change, 19 at the half, and 29 at the last break and ran out 39 point winners 131-92. Slammers import John Smith had 28 points and 7 rebounds for the match but he lacked offensive support with only Aaron Edwards 15 points really troubling the scorers. The Buccs imports combined for 68 of their 131 points with Meyer hitting 38 points, 11 rebounds & 4 assists. Le Blanc finished the match with 30 & 8. Tom Witts also provided good support with 19 points including 5-8 from outside.

The East Perth Eagles welcomed the 1-1 Titan Interactive Wolves to Morley for a big clash and no one left disappointed with four points being the largest margin at any break. The Eagles however took control in the last quarter with a 22-16 period, managing to hold off the Wolves for a 76-66 win in a low scoring affair. Wildcat Steven Weigh dominated with 27 points and 10 rebounds for the Eagles with Ben Thompson & John Taylor contributing 10 each. Doug Gates pulled in 20 points for the Wolves with Damian Matacz contributing 10 points & 19 rebounds.  Jeff Dowdell had 11 points & 13 rebounds while Scott Moore finished with 10 also. Ultimately turnovers hurt the Wolves with the Eagles contributing 14 points off the Wolves ball handling to just 4 points off turnovers for the Wolves.

The Southside Mitsubishi Redbacks travelled to Warwick buoyed by their win over last season’s Grand Finalists the Tigers. Stirling were welcoming new import Edward Morris into the line-up for his first game. It was all one way traffic in the first half with the Redbacks leading by 11 at the first break and 16 at the half. Ryan Neil had an amazing 23 points at the half, missing just 4 shots. However Neil hit just 2/14 in the second half as his side struggled to hold Stirling at bay. By ¾ time the Senators had taken a four point lead in an amazing 20 point turn around. The Redbacks struggled immensely in the second half hitting just 25% after converting 50% of their shots in the first half. Seb Salinas had 24 of his 38 points in the second half to lead the comeback. Salinas also finished with 5 assists and was backed up by Carmi Olowoyo with 21 points & 12 rebounds while Ed Morris had 20 points, 13 rebounds & 7 blocks in his first game. Neill had 28 for the Redbacks, while Wagner had 18 points & 8 assists, Michael Vigor finished with 17 and Reece Dempster had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

The Southalnds Boulevarde Willetton Tigers struggled against cross town rivals the Telstra Shop Success Cougars in the local derby. They stayed competitive for three quarters, down by 22 at the last change. However the Cougars never let the stranglehold go, outscoring the Tigers 43-13 in the last period to take out the game 131-79. The Cougars had five players in double figures led by Bryce Birch with 26 points, Alex Prince had 25points, 10 rebounds & 5 assists while Adam Becis pulled in 10 rebounds to go with his 21 points. Mark Jones had 19 points and 11 rebounds while local Andrew Musulin finished with 12 points and 8 rebounds. Captain Clint Read led the way for the Tigers with 19 points and 11 rebounds while Week 1 PowerPlayer of the Week Josh Johnson contributed 14 points and 9 rebounds. Kosta Illic and Wayne Biddle also finished in double digits with 13 and 12 points respectively. The Tigers will be hoping visa approval comes through for their match next weekend with the new look Eagles.

Sunday saw one match with the Buccs travelling to Mandurah to complete their road trip. The Magic nearly caused an upset over the Buccs in this see-saw affair with the Magic leading by 6 at the first break, both teams were even at the half and the Magic up by a point at the last change. However it was the Buccs who had more legs in the end, managing to outscore the Magic 29-19 in the last period to win 97-88. Luke Meyer again led the way with 30 points & 15 rebounds while fellow American Michael Le Blanc had 21 points, 9 rebounds and 3 steals. Aaron Ralph & Tom Witts also had double figures for the Buccs with 16 & 14 points each. Andrew Bowman led the way for the Magic with 20 points while Aaron Trahair & Ben Caporn both finished with 16. Tom Remmeswaal also provided solid support with hi s15 points. The Magic struggled on the glass pulling down just 36 rebounds to the Buccs 50.
