Week 2 PowerPlayer of the Week

The State Basketball League has released the Week 2 PowerPlayer of the week awards. Each week thanks to PowerPlay Sports one Women’s and one Men’s SBL player is awarded the SBL PowerPlayer of the week award. The winner receives a $50 voucher for PowerPlay Sports in Subiaco.

Week Two’s WSBL winner is Natalie Young from the Lakeside Lightning. Young had an impressive outing against the reliable Mandurah Magic outfit, leading her side to an upset defeat. She finished the match with 32 points, 6 rebounds & 3 steals on 48% shooting including 2-5 from outside. In three outings so far Young has averaged 29 points, 6.6 rebounds & 2 steals for the Lightning.

Week 1 PowerPlayer of the Week Brooke Hiddlestone came close to winning the award again with her outstanding effort of averaging 26.5 points, 15 rebounds & 1.5 assists in her two outings. Also close for a second week in a row was Lynx player Ashley Gilmore who averaged 20.5 points, 12 rebounds & 2.5 steals in her two outings at 58%.

Others in consideration were Emma Lobb (Eastern Suns), Samantha Norwood (Eastern Suns), Kelsey Maffin (Eagles), Gail Ekhoudt (Flames), Kate Fielding (Slammers), Emma Pass (Cougars), Chelsea Armstrong (Wolves), Gabbi Clayton (Senators) and Brooke Hiddlestone (Redbacks).

The Men’s competition again had some outstanding efforts and the internal votes were very close. The PowerPlayer of the week went to Luke Meyer (Geraldton Buccaneers). Meyer had 68 points & 26 rebounds for his two games on the road shooting an incredible 71% for the weekend. His impressive form led his team to a perfect 2-0 weekend on their tough road trip against Slammers & Magic.

300 Game Veteran Travis Moore was unlucky to miss out on the award with his 36 point (84%), 14 rebound effort in his milestone game. Seb Salinas also had a huge game with 28 points, 6 rebounds & 5 assists in his sides win over the Redbacks.

Others that were considered for the award were Adrian Majstravich (Eastern Suns), Steven Weigh (Eagles), John Smith (Slammers), Jason Faulkner (Lightning), Ryan Sofoulis (Lightning), Andrew Bowman (Magic), Ryan Neill (Redbacks), Clint Read (Tigers), Tom Garlepp (Hawks, Michael Le Blanc (Buccs), Alex Prince (Cougars) and Adam Becis (Cougars).
