Friday Night Review

The Southside Mitsubishi Redbacks had a fight on their hands at home tonight however they were in the lead at every change throughout the night. The Flames found themselves down by five at the last break after a tough struggle all game. It was the fourth quarter however that would ultimately belong to the Flames with the Rockingham ladies taking out a 6 point turnaround to register a 1 point win. Lynx player Kaye Tucker was in fine form with 24 points and 12 rebounds and she was well backed by Casey Haggar. The Redbacks were led by Brooke Hiddlestone’s double-double of 13 points & 13 rebounds. Narelle Henry had 12 points, 6 steals and 4 assists with Kerise Delcoure also providing support with her 12 points.

The Joondalup City Wolves came up against the struggling Senators on the first of their two games this weekend. The Wolves were convincing 19 point winners and more importantly shared the work load with no player having more than 27 minutes. Their three top scorers were Shani Amos, Meghan D’arcy & Belinda Cole who all had 10 points each. The Senators struggled to score inside the keyway managing just 16 points to the Wolves 50. They were led by Gabbi Clayton with 16 points while Lynx player Danni Devenny hit 14 points in her first match for 2009. Alicia Rinaldi also chipped in with a 14 point, 7 rebound effort. The Wolves will need to be at their best for their clash on Saturday with the Hawks.

The Redbacks men battled it out against the Flames and set the scene for the match after the first quarter with a 34-15 lead at the first break. They extended this to a 26 point lead at the half on the back of a 60% shooting quarter. The second half saw the Flames outscore the Redbacks by 7 points but it was not enough to stop the Redbacks from registering their second straight win (114-96) ahead of their clash against the strong Cougars outfit on Saturday night. Import Joseph Harrel led the scoring for the Flames with 27 points and 8 rebounds. He was backed up by Jarryd Griffin who had 25 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Ryan Neill continued his good form with 27 points for the Redbacks, while Captain Joel Wagner had 22 points, 6 rebounds and 12 assists. Young stars Robert Cassir & Michael Vigor had 16 points each.

Next door neighbours Wanneroo & Stirling faced off in a close game. The teams were even at the first change and the Wolves took a small four point lead in to the half time break. However the third quarter belonged to the Wolves who dominated 31 to 20 with some impressive shooting displays, they took the match 102-91. Irish international Damian Matacz had 24 points and 7 rebounds for the Wolves. He was supported by Tony Pearman who had 19, while youngster Reece Maxwell contributed 16 (in 19 minutes) and American Scott Moore had 15 points and 4 assists. The Senators were led by import Ed Morris who registered 25 points and 13 rebounds. Carmie Olowoyo had 20 points and 7 rebounds but fouled out, while Seb Salinas finished with 18 points and 8 rebounds.
