Redbacks too hot for Flames

REDBACKS had a strong 114-96 point win against the Rockingham Flames in their basketball game on Friday night at Belmont Oasis.

Shooting guard Ryan Neill top-scored for the Redbacks with 27 points, along with 8 rebounds, with point guard Joel Wagner the next highest on 22 points, together with an impressive 12 assists.

Power-forward Earl Nurse had a strong game, putting in 10 points along with 11 rebounds and seven assists.

The Redbacks men lost to the highly-rated Cockburn Cougars the following night 105-78 in a tough match at the Wally Hagan stadium.

Neill again top-scored with 22 points along with six assists, with the next highest scorer being centre Michael Vigor with 20 points along with seven rebounds.

This leaves the Redbacks with two wins and three losses and in 10th place in the 14-team competition.

The Redbacks women lost to the Rockingham Flames 68-69 in a closely fought match.

Forward Brooke Hiddlestone top-scored with 13 points along with 13 rebounds, followed by guards Kerise Delcoure (12 points and four assists) and Narelle Henry (12 points, four assists and six steals).

They bounced back the next night to beat the Cockburn Cougars 64-52.

Hiddlestone again top-scored with 31 points, together with 15 rebounds.

Guard Jacinta Bourne was the next highest scorer with nine points.

The Redbacks’ women have a season record of three wins and two losses and are in 6th position in the 12-team competition.
