Stirling struck down by Lightning

STIRLING were left to lament a poor start as the State League Basketball club suffered a heavy 89-111 loss to Lakeside Lightning at the weekend.

The Senators shot at less than 35 per cent in the first period, which allowed the Lightning to establish a match-winning lead.

A much-improved second quarter saw Stirling pull the margin back but they faded to give Lightning the win.

The Senators had no answer for Luke Payne (30 points, five assists), while Ryan Sofoulis (27 points) hit five from seven three-point attempts and Darren Prue dominated the backboards, pulling down 19 rebounds.

For the Senators, Sebastian Salanis scored 24 points including five three-pointers of his own, while Ed Morris Jr made 14 points and six rebounds.
