Week 5 PowerPlayer of the Week

The State Basketball League has released the Week 5 PowerPlayer of the week awards. Each week thanks to PowerPlay Sports one Women’s and one Men’s SBL player is awarded the SBL PowerPlayer of the week award. The winner receives a $50 voucher for PowerPlay Sports in Subiaco.

Week Five’s WSBL winner is Go for 2&5 Perth Lynx and Southlands Boulevarde Willetton Tigers star Ashley Gilmore. Gilmore had 25 points, 19 rebounds and 4 steals in her team’s 74-59 point win over the Southside Mitsubishi Redbacks. In addition Gilmore shot at an impressive 50% from the field against the fifth placed Redbacks.

Metropolis Fremantle Cougars captain Emma Pass was unlucky to miss out with her 28 point, 13 rebound effort in her sides 69-59 win over the Carpet Court Slammers. Pass shot an impressive 60% from the floor, including three of four from the free throw line.

Others in consideration for the Week 5 PowerPlayer of the week were Kate Fielding (Slammers), Kate Malpass (Tigers), Latoya Wallace (Redbacks), Gemma Thomas (Magic), Gabriella Clayton (Senators), Jodie Wallace (Wolves), Natalie Young (Lightning) and Meghan D’arcy (Wolves).

The Men’s competition continues to see very close selections with both Robert Epps and Michael Le Blanc being considered for this weeks award. Ultimately Robert Epps got the nod for his 34 points, 25 rebounds, 8 blocks and 5 assists. His Southlands Boulevarde Willetton Tigers defeated the Southside Mitsubishi Redbacks in double overtime.

Le Blanc had a very impressive weekend in his sides split weekend. In their loss to the Perry Lakes Hawks Le Blanc finished with 39 points and 8 rebounds. He backed up this effort with a massive haul of 46 points and 15 rebounds as his side rebounded to defeat the Eastern Suns 99-90 to head back home with a 6-1 record.

Others that were considered for the award were Brad Jackson (Lightning), Joseph Harrell Jr (Flames), Ryan Hulme (Giants), Shamus Ballantyne (Giants), Michael Haney (Giants), Tom Garlepp (Hawks), Jesse Dixon (Hawks), Adrian Majstravich (Eastern Suns), Ben Caporn (Magic), Carmie Olowoyo (Senators), Bryce Birch (Cougars), Andrew Musulin (Cougars) and John Smith (Slammers).
