Buccs Plunder Suns

The Suns men's team has suffered another close loss last Saturday as they went down in the dying minutes to the Geraldton Buccaneers 90-99.

Heading in to the game the men were keen to turn around their slow start to the season and notch up their second win of the season against a Buccs side who had just suffered their first loss against the Perry Lakes Hawks the night before.

It was a tight tussle in the first quarter as the lead changed six times and the largest of the margins only 5. However it was the Suns who went to the first break to points up.

The guys quickly went about trying to build on their slim lead, getting it out to 6. But a physical Buccs team was up to the challenge as they erased the deficit to lead by 1 at the quarter as their two imports Luke Meyer & Michael Le Blanc combined for 17 of the team Buccs 24 points for the term.

The third term was much of the same as neither team could manage to build a comfortable lead as the last break saw the visitors with a two point advantage.

As hard as the Suns men played and defended, it was their shooting that started to falter in the final term as they managed only 17.6% from the field. The Buccs on the other hand remained consistent on the back of a game high 46 points from Le Blanc.

The Suns were not giving up though as they pegged back a 9 point margin with mostly from the free throw line where they scored 9 of their 16 points for the quarter. Justin Eckhardt's successful free throws with 2:32 left in the quarter saw the home team hit the lead for the first time since mid-way through the third quarter. However, offensive rebounding and successful free throws of their own saw the Buccs split their two game road trip.

The Suns men will now regroup as they, and our Women's team, prepare themselves for a tough double-header this week against the Cockburn Cougars at home on Friday 17th April (Women @ 6:30pm / Men @ 8:30pm). Followed by an away game at Willetton on Saturday 18th April against the Tigers (Women @ 6:00pm / Men @ 8:00pm).
