The Southside Mitsubishi Redback’s men’s State Basketball League team defeated the Mandurah Magic at Mandurah 104 to 86.  Despite the large score difference the scorecard does not reflect the tightness of the game in which the Magic got out of the blocks quickly having led by as much as 13 points during the first quarter.  However, the Redbacks men gradually wore down the Magic over the next three quarters with concerted defensive pressure to record their impressive win.

USA import Chris Lynch top-scored for the Redbacks with 29 points along with 10 rebounds and 3 assists, with veteran guard and former league most valuable player Ryan Neill continuing his strong form with 25 points at the highly impressive field goal percentage of 69.  The win sees the Redbacks’ SBL men with a season record of 3 wins and 6 losses and in 11th place in the 14-team competition.
The Redbacks’ women’s SBL team had a disappointing loss to the Mandurah Magic 48 to 60, which sees them with a season record of 5 wins and 4 losses and in 5th place in the 12-team competition.

Former National Basketball League players Brooke Hiddlestone and Narelle Henry top-scored for the Redbacks with scores of 17 and 15 points respectively, which represented 2/3rds of their teams entire score.

The SBL action continues next week with the Redbacks playing the Kalamunda Eastern Suns at the Ray Owen Stadium, Lesmurdie this Friday 24 April with the women’s game starting at 6.30PM and the men’s game at 8.30PM.
