Smith Makes Opals Team

Basketball Australia is pleased to announce the 16 athletes selected for the Opals team that will tour China and Europe in May.

The team was selected following a successful training camp at the Australian Institute of Sport from April 2-5 and includes 2008/09 Women's National Basketball League MVP Rohanee Cox and fellow Olympians Emma Randall and Alicia Poto.

Making their Opals debut on the tour will be Natalie Hurst, Elyse Penaluna and Liz Cambage.

In China the World Champion Opals will compete against the world number five-ranked Chinese women's team in a three game series on May 15, 17 and 19; their first appearance with Head Coach Carrie Graf at the helm.

Following the China series the team will travel to Europe for a camp in Varese, Italy from May 20-23.

The Opals will then head to the Czech Republic to play the women's national team, ranked seventh internationally, in two games on May 25-26.

A friendly game against Hungary (world ranking - 24) on May 28 in Paris will be a warm up for an international tournament in the city from May 29-31, where the Australians will compete against the Czech Republic, Hungary and host nation France (world ranking - eight).
