Perry Lakes Hawks Set For May 2 Clash With Rockingham Flames

The Perry Lakes Hawks Basketball club are expecting a big night on May 2nd at Perry Lakes Stadium.  They will have two major concerns that night: the Rockingham Flames and the drawing of the 205 club prizes to some lucky winners (tickets still available until draw time).

Both the men's and women's teams are having very terrific seasons.  The Lady Hawks have lost only one game and are led by newly selected Opals player Deanna Smith, along with current Lynx and former Lynx players Tanya Kelly, Chelsea Boyanich and Tegan Walker.  Add to this a very talented group of youngsters and super coach Glenn Ellis and you are assured of an exciting, entertaining brand of basketball.

The Lady Hawks are fresh for a strong win against the Kalamunda Suns last week in which all players made a contribution.  This game against the undefeated Rockingham Flames will be a strong test for the Hawks but in a close game the home court advantage should carry them through.

The Hawks Men's SBL team has undergone a restructure over the last two years and we have seen some of our younger players begin to emerge as stars in the SBL.  These include Martin Vahala, Ben Purser, Jessie Dixon and Daniel Harloe.  Indeed, thirteen of the squad have come through the Hawks Junior competition.

The younger players are strongly led and mentored on court by Joe Allen Tupea and Wildcat Tom Garlepp.  Add to this the recent inclusion of Wildcat Peter Crawford and, this week, our import from the USA, Danny Hawkins, and we have a formula that coaches Dagostino and Fisher believe will go places this season.

Currently sitting at fifth position on the ladder (6 wins, 3 losses) the Hawks are looking to consolidate their position with a win against Rockingham Flames.  The Flames have an impressive import of their own (Joey Harrell) and a group of veterans led by Travis Moore.  The contest between Garlepp, Hawkins and Bardill against Harrell and Moore will be worth watching.

The Hawks are fresh from a very strong win against the Kalamunda Suns, have already caused some upsets this season and should take this game out.
