Redbacks Win Three from Four
The Southside Mitsubishi Redbacks' men beat the East Perth Eagles 97 to 89 points in a tight game at the Morley Recreation Centre. Shooting guard Jarrad Prior top scored for the Redbacks with 25 points along with 7 rebounds, followed by small forward Chris Lynch who scored 17 points along with 8 rebounds. Power forward Earl Nurse strongly strongly contributed defensively with 10 tough rebounds.
However, the Redbacks' men lost in the subsequent night's encounter against second placed Geraldton Buccaneers played at Belmont Oasis 82 to 93. Shooting guard Ryan Neill top scored for the Redbacks with 19 points along 6 rebounds and 2 assists followed by Jarrad Prior who scored 16 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. The split rounds see the Redbacks' men with a season record of 5 wins and 7 losses and in 8th position in the 14-team competition.
The Redbacks' women beat the Eagles 72 to 64 in another tight game in which the Eagles made a late come back to nearly seize the lead at the finish. However, the game was decided on the rebound count which the Redbacks dominated with 46 compared to the Eagles 30. Power forward Brooke Hiddlestone continued her season long outstanding form scoring 31 points along with 20 rebounds, with forward Stephanie Mooka also contributing strongly with 13 points and 11 rebounds. The Redbacks' women now have 6 wins and 5 losses for the season and are in 6th position in the 12-team competition.
Next Saturday sees the Redbacks' men travelling to Kalgoorlie to play the Kalgoorlie Giants in what will be a tough away from home encounter. The women's team has a bye.
