April SBL PowerPlayer & Coach of the Month Revealed

The State Basketball League (SBL) has revealed its monthly player & coach awards. Sponsored by PowerPlay Sports in Subiaco, the PowerPlayer of the Month & PowerPlay Coach of the Month for WSBL & MSBL receive a $50.00 voucher to PowerPlay Sports Store.

The April PowerPlayer of the month for the WSBL competition is Ashley Gilmore from the Southlands Boulevarde Wiletton Tigers. During April Gilmore led her team to a 4-0 record while averaging 16.3 points, 15.3 rebounds and 2.8 assists in her four games. The Go for 2&5 Perth Lynx player also had highs of 25 points and 19 rebounds against the Redbacks and 6 assists against the Eastern Suns.

Others that came under close consideration for the award were Kaye Tucker (Flames), Brooke Hiddlestone (Redbacks) & Samantha Norwood (Eastern Suns). Others that received mentions were Sharelle Johnson (Flames), Kate Malpass (Tigers), Emma Pass (Cougars), Deanna Smith (Hawks), & Natalie Young (Lightning).

The WSBL PowerPlay Coach of the Month went to first year head coach Ryan Petrick who has led his team to a 5-0 record during April. The Flames are also tied for first spot with the Perry Lakes Hawks at 7-1 for the season. Coach Petrick lost star Shelley Boston before the season and has done a tremendous job in lifting his team to an almost flawless season thus far.

In the Men's competition the PowerPlayer of the Month went to Perry Lakes Hawks & Perth Wildcats player Tom Garlepp. While leading the Hawks to a 4-1 record throughout April Garlepp also had averages of 28.8 points, 13.8 rebounds & 5.8 assists in his 4 games. Garlepp finished the month with highs of 33 points and 20 rebounds against the Eastern Suns and 7 assists against the Slammers.

Dominos Geraldton Buccaneers player Luke Meyer came close to taking the award again along with Robert Epps (Tigers), Michael Le Blanc (Buccs) & Adrian Majstravich (Eastern Suns). Players that also received a mention were Chris Dodd (Senators), Michael Haney (Giants), Joseph Harrell (Flames), Alonzo Hird (Giants), Christopher Lynch (Redbacks), Damian Matacz (Wolves), Travis Moore (Flames), Ryan Neil (Redbacks), Carmie Olowoyo (Senators), Jarrad Prue (Lightning), Clint Read (Tigers) & John Smith (Slammers).

The PowerPlay coach of the month for April is Andy Stewart from the Lakeside Lightning. Stewart continues to find ways for his team to win games and during April they did just that with a perfect 4-0 record and an average winning margin of 22.2 points. The Lightning are on top of the MSBL ladder with a 9-1 record and during April claimed the scalps of the reigning champions, Goldfields Giants, top 8 teams Wanneroo & Stirling, as well as the highly fancied Cockburn Cougars.
