Week 8 PowerPlayer of the Week

The State Basketball League has released the Week 7 PowerPlayer of the week awards. Each week thanks to PowerPlay Sports one Woman's and one Men's SBL player is awarded the SBL PowerPlayer of the week award. The winner receives a $50 voucher for PowerPlay Sports in Subiaco.

Week Eight's WSBL winner is Australian Opal & Perry Lakes Hawks star Deanna Smith who had an amazing performance in the top of the table clash against the undefeated Rockingham Flames. Smith finished with 42 points, 14 rebounds & 6 steals in just 25 minutes on court in the 85-60 demolition of the Flames. Smith also shot an incredible 65% from the floor including 3 of 6 from outside the three point arc while making 9 of 9 free throws. This is Smith's second SBL PowerPlayer of the Week Award in 2009.

Southside Mitsubishi Redbacks player Brooke Hiddlestone also came close to winning her second PowerPlayer of the Week award with her 30 points & 20 rebounds against the Australian Central Eagles. Kalamunda Eastern Suns player Samantha Norwood also was in close consideration with her 28 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists against the Stirling Senators.

Others in consideration for the Week 8 PowerPlayer of the week were Kelsey Maffin (Eagles), Stephanie Mooka (Redbacks), Natalie Young (Lightning), Elizabeth Lennox (Slammers), Casey Haggar (Flames), Dannielle Devenny (Senators), Brittany Morgan (Eastern Suns), Elizabeth Zezan (Eagles), Ashley Gilmore (Tigers), Shani Amos (Wolves) & Ella Buckley (Cougars).

The Men's PowerPlayer of the Week was awarded to Edward Morris Jr from the Stirling Senators. Morris Jr compiled 33 points, 17 rebounds and 3 steals in his sides crucial two point victory over the Kalamunda Eastern Suns. Morris Jr also had a 77% shooting percentage for the game, as well as shooting 4 from 5 free throws.

Perry Lakes Hawks player Tom Garlepp was in close consideration with his 31 points, 15 rebounds & 4 assists in his sides two point win over the Rockingham Flames. Joseph Nixon also was considered for his first up effort of 28 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists in his sides two point loss to the Senators. Fellow first gamer for 2009 Alex Loughton was also strong with 28 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists in his sides win over the Cougars.

Others that were considered for the award were Ben Thompson (Eagles), Jarrad Prior (Redbacks), Luke Payne (Lightning), John Smith (Slammers), Michael Haney (Giants), Tom Remmeswaal (Magic), Michael Le Blanc (Buccs), Luke Meyer (Buccs), Joseph Harrel Jr (Flames), Seb Salinas (Senators), Adrian Majstravich (Eastern Suns), Vincent James (Slammers), John Taylor (Eagles), Robert Epps (Tigers), Jason Faulkner (Lightning), Bryce Birch (Cougars) & Douglas McGlaughlin-Williams (Cougars).
