Week 9 PowerPlayer of the Week

The State Basketball League has released the Week 9 PowerPlayer of the week awards. Each week thanks to PowerPlay Sports one Women's and one Men's SBL player is awarded the SBL PowerPlayer of the week award. The winner receives a $50 voucher for PowerPlay Sports in Subiaco.

Week Nine's winner is Ashley Gilmore from the Southlands Boulevarde Willetton Tigers who takes out her second PowerPlayer of the week to go with her April PowerPlayer of the Month. Gilmore led her side to a 1-1 record this weekend and averaged 23.5 points, 20.5 rebounds and 4 assists per game. Gilmore has been having an outstanding season and is currently third on points scored in the league and first in rebounds.

This week saw two other players under consideration for the award with Elizabeth Lennox (Slammers) and Samantha Norwood (Eastern Suns) also having strong weekends. Lennox finished with 21 points and 13 rebounds on 58% shooting in her sides 21 point defeat of the Senators. Norwood was also strong in her sides five point loss to the Wolves, finishing with 23 points & 13 rebounds on 57% shooting. 

Others in consideration for the Week 9 PowerPlayer of the week were Ella Buckley (Cougars), Shelley Boston (Magic), Deanna Smith (Hawks), Nicole Jorre St Jorre (Wolves), Kaye Tucker (Flames), Tarsha Fletcher (Magic) and Meghan D'arcy (Wolves).

In the Men's competition Wildcat Jeff Dowdell from the Titan Interactive Wolves took out the PowerPlayer of the Week award for his outstanding two games. Dowdell had 21 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists in his side's 127-105 victory over the Tigers. He backed this up with a massive 42 points (15/20 shooting), 13 rebounds and 8 assists as his side defeated the Kalamunda Eastern Suns.

Perry Lakes Hawks player Tom Garlepp came under close consideration for the award with his 33 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists in the Hawks 116-94 win over the Senators. Also considered was Robert Epps (Tigers) for his 26 point, 10 rebound average in his side’s 1-1 weekend with new import Christoffersen.

Others that were considered for the award were Mark Jones (Cougars), Andrew Bowman (Magic), Edward Morris Jr (Senators), Alex Loughton (Wolves), Michael Le Blanc (Buccs), John Taylor (Eagles), Alonzo Hird (Giants), Michael Haney (Giants), Chris Lynch (Redbacks), Ryan Godfrey (Flames), Chris Christoffersen (Tigers), Jarrad Prue (Lightning), Luke Payne (Lightning), Carmie Olowoyo (Senators), John Smith (Slammers) & Adrian Majstravich (Eastern Suns).
