Redbacks win at Home

For the first time at their home venue of Belmont Oasis this year, both Southside Mitsubishi State Basketball League men's and women's teams won in their games against the Carpet Court Slammers 72 to 46 and 97 to 74 respectively.

In her first game for the Redbacks, current Australian Opals Squad member Rene Camino was the game-high scorer with a highly impressive 26 points along with 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals.  The next highest scorer was the Redbacks ' former National Basketball League player, Brooke Hiddlestone, who scored 15 points and brought down 17 rebounds together with 1 assist, 3 steals and 2 blocked shots.  Guard Natasha Nicholson scored 17 points in just 14 minutes of court-time along with 3 rebounds and Yasmin Seden also scored 17 points along with 4 rebounds.

The Redbacks' women's team now has a season record of 7 wins and 5 losses, which sees them in 5th place in the 12-team competition.

Redbacks' shooting guard Jarrad Prior was the game-high scorer in the men's game with 21 points along with 3 rebounds, 1 assist and 4 steals and, in an indication of his strong defensive effort, 8 received fouls.  Point guard Joel Wagner scored 20 points at an impressive field goal percentage of 78 along with 9 assists, 4 rebounds, 3 steals and 1 blocked shot. 

US import Christ Lynch was the next highest scorer with 18 points along with 10 rebounds and 3 assists and Reece Dempster scored 11 points along with 7 rebounds and 2 blocked shots.

The win sees the Redbacks men back into the top-8 in the 14-team competition, displacing the Carpet Court Slammers from that position, with a season record of 6 wins and 8 losses.

The State Basketball League action continues tonight for the Redbacks against the Wanneroo Wolves at the Joondalup Basketball Stadium, Wise Street Joondalup with the women's game starting at 6PM and the men's game at 8PM.
