Eagles strike against Lightning

EAST Perth Eagles have claimed their second-straight win, upsetting Lakeside Lightning 83-78 in the women's State Basketball League.

Eagles' new US import Faye Muller had an immediate impact with 20 points and 17 rebounds in her first match.

Other important contributions came from Liz Zezan, who shot 20 points including five from five three-point attempts, while the Morley-based club's other import Kelsey Maffin scored 14 points and seven rebounds.

Tall youngster Samantha Toomath played her best league match with a timely 10 points and seven rebounds.

Lakeside's best player was again Natalie Young with 38 points, leaving her as the competition's leading scorer with an average of 25 points per game.

The Eagles have a bye this weekend before facing neighbouring rivals Stirling, who have just one win this season.

The men's team played possibly their worst game of the season as they were thrashed 96-64 by Lakeside, the State Basketball League ladder leaders.

East Perth coach Adam Caporn tried a range of team combinations to motivate his team but to no avail.

Perth Wildcat Stephen Weigh was the only East Perth player to reach double figures with 24 points.
