Wundenberg confident Buccs can go all the way

BUCCS captain Matt Wundenberg has every faith that the Geraldton Buccaneers can go all the way this year.

Ray Evans' men will look to do the double over Perth Redbacks tomorrow night at Tip Top Stadium and Wundenberg is happy with the way the Buccs are faring as the business end of the SBL season approaches.

"I definitely think that we have the team to win the SBL title this year. We've been training really well over the last few weeks, with a good squad of 14 players. We've got the right aspirations but we're not arrogant about it and we know we've still got work to do," said Wundenberg who sits on 169 points for the season.

The Buccs captain admitted that his outlook has changed since the start of the season and as well as labeling teammate Luke Meyer as one of the best players he's seen in the SBL, he said coach Evans is the main reason why the Buccs are playing so well this year.

"Ray has so much SBL experience, he's got all the credentials to lead the team and it's showing though our performances. He'll pat you on the back when you're playing well and he isn't afraid to let you know when you're not, he's really created a team atmosphere since he took over this year," he said.

The last time Ray Evans' men last clashed with the Redbacks was on the road with a 82-93 round eight win earlier this month. Victory came after an emphatic Anzac weekend performance at home when they saw off Southwest Slammers and the Goldfields Giants.

The Rebacks have had a bit of a topsy-turby ride of late although they could be bolstered after their 97-74 win against the Slammers last week. However, the Redbacks went down to the Giants, who the Buccs dominated 103-81.

Last time round the Buccs led from the first quarter and speaking to the Guardian on Thursday, Evans said he will be expecting the same performance again tomorrow.

"I will definitely be expecting the win tomorrow night, the boys have trained well this week with a good two and half hour session on Wednesday night," said Evans.

A win at home will put the Buccs in good stead for what many see as the SBL game of the year when they face Lakeside Lightning on the road next week. The Buccs tip off at 7.30pm at Tip Top. Grab Monday's Geraldton Guardian for a full Buccs review.
