Week 14 PowerPlayer of the Week Announced

The State Basketball League has released the Week 14 PowerPlayer of the week awards. Each week thanks to PowerPlay Sports one Women’s and one Men’s SBL player is awarded the SBL PowerPlayer of the week award. The winner receives a $50 voucher for PowerPlay Sports in Subiaco.

Week Fourteen’s winner is Brooke Hiddlestone from the Southside Mitsubishi Redbacks who also claimed the award back in Week One of the competition. Hiddlestone led her Redbacks to an 81-57 win over the Lightning. Dominating in the paint, Hiddlestone finished with 23 points and 22 rebounds (15 defensive) and shot at 57% from the floor. In 15 games Hiddlestone averages 22.1 points and 15.5 rebounds per game.

Natalie Young from the Lakeside Lightning was also in close consideration for the award with her two impressive games, leading her side to a 1-1 weekend. Young had 23 points and 10 rebounds against the Slammers. This was backed up with 23 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists against the Redbacks. Young also shot an impressive 59.3% from the floor for the weekend.

Others in consideration for the Week 14 award were Emma Pass (Cougars), Samantha Norwood (Eastern Suns), Ashley Gilmore (Tigers), Deanna Smith (Hawks), Elizabeth Lennox (Slammers), Renae Comino (Redbacks), Alicia Rinaldi (Senators), Vanessa Michael (Cougars) & Sandra Faye Muller-Garner (Eagles).

In the Men’s competition Cougars import Douglas McLaughlin-Williams takes out his first award. McLaughlin-Williams led his side to two crucial wins and fourth spot on the ladder in Week 14. In game one against the Wolves Williams had 21 points and 10 rebounds. This was backed up against the Senators with 24 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists.  

Aaron Christopher-Lynch (Redbacks) and Joe Nixon (Eastern Suns) were closely considered in Week 14. Lynch led his side to an upset over the ladder leading Lightning and up to 7th spot on the ladder. In stopping the Lightning’s 13 game win streak Lynch finished with 28 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists while shooting 57% from the floor. Meanwhile Nixon was strong in his side’s victory over the Tigers with 36 points (40%), 8 rebounds and 5 assists.

Others that were considered for the award were Jeff Dowdell (Wolves), Corey Easley (Cougars), Robert Epps (Tigers), Chris Christopherssen (Tigers), John Smith (Slammers), Jarrad Prue (Lightning), Daniel Thomas (Buccs), Luke Meyer (Buccs), Shaun Bennison (Magic), Mark Heron (Giants), Ryan Godfrey (Flames), Joseph Harrell Jr (Flames), Tom Garlepp (Hawks), Peter Crawford (Hawks), Vincent James (Slammers), Luke Payne (Lightning), Stephen Weigh (Eagles).
